TV has moved up in the moral sense, racism is removed mostly unless it's a plot point, gender gets better treatment (but so overplayed at times). My TV as I was growing up was Callan, Pennies from Heaven, The Singing Detective and the like. I think they still stand up pretty well. OK, production values have improved and with the use of CG it can make stuff look more flash, but I'm talking stories, characters, quality of acting, enjoyment and all of that sort of stuff.
I have to admit I stopped reading comics because they had ran out of idea's and often (as still happens) basically were telling the same story on both big platforms, if one had a Secret War, the other had a galactic war etc etc. Also, they started to try and make them more real word with issues of the times being fed in to the...
Roy did musichall, radio, TV, serious acting and wrote so much for many comedians and himself. A much loved comic great who was as nice off stage as he was on, a true gent and an amazing talented and well read person. I always think of him a one of the Goons even though he wasn't but was of that comic royalty.
One of my fave films too, had the guy who did a lot of the effects in at Maplin, even offered me a job as a dogsbody in training. Two of us were invited to the set for the window destruction scene where they used wind machines to blow the top floor windows out but could not go due to work. But part of the effect where the Highlander gets hit by lightning on the hand is partly my idea to the guy ...
