Mate, I'll keep it brief as I need to be there for Bev down the hossie and supposedly working from home too but I'm sure the council won't mind me spreading a little joy to citizens rather than dealing with parking tickets(s). Buddy, if you still want one of these specimens - I acquired a non working but lovely example condition-wise ORIC ATMOS and Rich did his usual.... hmmm, wonder why it won't boot? Baz, have you introduced it to too much voltage, you over keen retronaut? No, mate - don't look at me, I wouldn't know one end of a voltage regulator from the other... Aha, I wonder if I change the V.R. over for another it might work? HEY PRESTO - Richie fixed it in a flash. All you need do now is let us know when you want it and of course we need to source you a PSU/leads etc (9v centre positive - opposite to the Speccy anyhow). Some guidance here: Connector is 5.5mm x 2.5mm, but larger one can be used too important is the internal diameter. Polarity is '+' inside, '-' outside. (https://forum.defence-force.org/viewtopic.php?t=1364) We hope this will bring some Christmas joy to you Graham and thanks again for those lovely kind words from Pam and your goodself - you are as ever so thoughtful, fella.
Woohoo...A working doorstop, excellent... Seriously well done all, always good to see a machine revived from dead and back in use.. Have fun with that Graham, all the best to you and yours from us lot in the Irvine household..(want a cat?) Just joking.. Felix or Folox as he gets called is our furry lump of flea poo...(the vet is in his future...Very near future)
WOW Oh Boy Thanks so much fella's, You'll have to let me know what monies I need to pay for the item, it's repairs carriage etc. etc. PSU wise my home 'Atari' made PSU from some 30+ years ago will be fine, it's fitted with outlets for 5VDC and 9VAC, and I make up cables to go from this to what ever I need to power (except 12vDC which I could add but need a bigger case for the PSU) I guess what I've just pointed out as my 'master Brick PSU' should ideally have 12VDC Added .. another project. GENTS THANK YOU THATS SO THOUGHTFUL AND NICE OF YOU
Admittedly I knew nothing of this but its nice to see a good kind fella get a treat... Its just how we are on here...
I swore Richie to silence by sending him some more ancient retro tapes... oops, they're still to go... ho ho ho... Keep checking your letter box, Richie(!) As Paul said, Graham, it's a pleasure spreading a little pleasure on our forum from time to time. We all do it when we can on here as that's what this forum and friends are for - what goes around, comes around as they say and Orics have been known to make good feet warmers after an hour's tape loading (crashing!)
At this point I'm lost for words. Something I'm not usually short of. I'll endevour to pull myself together, and finish some bits off. I'm working on a pretty much maxed out 800XL at the moment. it has an additional SIO port, SIOtoPC built in a O.S. tripler as per RAMROD XL, 512K Memory upgrade, an O.S.Controller, UAV, Stereo ... Works fine one min. stable as you like next it red screens. touching the UAV pins gives me a dark red screen with the edge of the ready prompt just visiable on the far left. Tried another O.S Controller, similar, removed and the problem seems to go away, well at least thats what I thought but no 5 mins later back to a red screen.. I did try another UAV but has the same issue, so best not poke my fingers in there anymore. even tried a Sophia before UAV as all appeared to point to that until I had the 'proper' Red Screen of Death. Drawing board here I come. Oh words just flowed ... Mean while I hope all has gone well with Bev at hospital today. Catch you all later on.
Guys, I updated Paul in a PM and sent Graham a short text but basically I've been all over again today trying to get stuff together foodwise just in case I do get Bev home tomorrow to be able to cook her a few frazzled sprouts and maybe knock together a Mars bar sandwich for her, that kind of thing (it doubles as my Christmas log). To sum up, she came round from her op at about 6:15pm and is feeling well considering they've rebuilt/realigned her foot, ankle and fibia. She had another fall yesterday and this had compounded the damage but thankfully we hope that the surgeon has carried out and completed all the work in this session and Bev won't need to go under the knife again. She's very tired and won't be able to come home til at least tomorrow PM so whether or not I get her back home for some late lunch, well, its in the lap of the gods so we'll see but I'm just glad she is now beginning to be back on the mend...real soon. Thank you all for your wonderful words and best wishes which has helped to keep me going through some pretty mad stressful days of late. Cheers, fellas. Retro guys rock. I do still hope we can get Paul's planned video chat up and running in the next week or so amongst A.O. members? Would be nice to say thanks LIVE and shove my ugly grey mug above the parapet and into your living rooms...
Glad that bev is all done in one but what a shitty thing to happen after all of this crap in the year. Heart goes out to you guys, house issues, this, Covid and all the hell around it. I hope you get her home for the PM today, Xmas day in hospital is pretty grim as much as I think out NHS people are great. Well my daughter on point with presents so far, an Atari mug with grumpy old git on the other side (that's me) and an Amiga tee shirt in my yearly tradition of getting tee shirts from her. And yes, somehow later in the week when people are more stable we must have some sort of online meet.
Lol...Just opened the mug, the irony for the whole year is there...Task failed successfully! Love it...Thank you...
BEV MADE IT! And has survived my sprout feast cooking - see pic at end of STOP THE CAVALRY for evidence - cheers, guys and glad you enjoyed your gift, Paul. As you say, the irony of that Windoze dialogue message is not lost on any of us this fekking year(!!)
