Came across this interesting little article about some of Atari's more obscure products https://www.technologizer.com/2012/02/12/atari-oddities/ I've always wanted an Atari calculator ever since the adverts in Atari User, not seen one on EBay for years now despite periodic searches. So, what are you favourites from the link above, and what is the most obscure Atari item you have in your collection?
I knew of some of those thing like the Stunt Cycle controller, obviously the Calculator and the Pinball but the rest are just er weird and look like the inspiration for Alan Sugar's crap from Amstrad. Sorry, no rare Atari items here, don't think I had any back then, all the decent point of sale was nabbed by Rayleigh head office.
Nice link and feature there, Al. Well, I have a 1200XL but I'm only caring for it as it has been bought by a forum member and I hope to get it to him later in the year so let's say I did have a rare-ish, in UK anyhow, Atari computer product, rather than obscure. I do have an Atari headset or two... and I know Brenski used to have quite a few Atari calculators (and the Video Music device), Al, but he flogged off his entire collection so alas no more. As for my fave weirdo product there...I guess I never heard about the colossal pinball machine so I'll go for that and tell mesen reet now... NO, BAZ - IT WILL NOT FIT IN YOUR RETRO BAR SO FERGIT IT! LOL ;-)
Same here Paul, when I think of all the POS especially that we got when I worked for Silica Shop. Andy, I had a headset too but the sound quality was really poor. The Video Music is something that looked so of it's time. I'd love one just for display purposes. As for the pinball, I think you should build an extension to the BazBar. Pretty sure Bev will agree to it.... just ask her lol
Oh yeah, mate - I can see her going for that idea....BIG TIME! I'll just tell her that it's massive enough to put me, all me Orics AND the Retro Bar onto the pinball table itself and just stick the lot in the back alleyway - she's then got rid of all her nuisance items in one fell swoop... IT's A WINNER!
The wrath of a woman knows no bounds Really starting to think what to do with my gear, I'm using stuff less and less these days, part pain, part the hell of being here. It's like a lunatic asylum, almost every day.
Maybe think about selling off some of the stuff you don't use Paul and invest it in things you will get a bit more joy out of? That's what I've been doing over the last 6 months or so and it seems to be working.
I keep thinking about it, but the 1200 was a gift from the USA, and the U1MB in it was also a gift from a mate, I'd feel bad doing that. As for the other stuff, doubt I'd get much for a Wii or a dreamcast. Just freed gigs of HD space by getting rid of gamebases I've not played in 10yrs plus. I actually don't need the space, I have spare HD's galore but it just sat there playing on my mind that I'll still have stuff I don't use in another 10yrs. I don't think I could lose my Atari or C64, I do have my moments on them, the PS4 is my daughter's, and I still have a load of originals that I have not played as yet, if I ever do. I dunno what to do as yet, your idea is what I was thinking initially, but I'm just stuck thinking
Hope you get some satisfaction in the end, Paul and like you say, if it's just sat there better it goes to a new home and you get some dosh you can put towards having a nice time with family and maybe having a short break at some point this year from the mayhem above you?
I'd love to go for a break but apart from the cat issue my rambling days are over, and I fear the same for Cindy after her fall a while back. There's nothing I like more than a walk through a forest on a summer's day, the nearest I'll get is a drive through. Still unsure what to do, but I'll give it a good thunk about it and then decide.
