Like most kids of the 1970's and 80's I had a decent collection of toy cars. A couple of years ago the Corgi Model Club (CMC) started up, reproducing the original models, boxes etc. My dream car is the Lotus Elan S2 so when they brought that model out last year it went to the top of my wishlist. Finally ordered it just before my last holiday but while I was away found an original 60's version for £10. Bargain! Was going to return the reproduction but decided to keep it today as it is such a nice model and comes with box, certificate etc. Anyway here is a photo. It's not far away, just small. For context, here it is in amongst the other CMC cars on the middle shelf. And finally, this is the rest of my Lotus model collection Anyone else have collections other than computers that they want to share?
Nice selection of movie and TV shows cars, someone likes a Bond car I don't have many, what I have are old TV shows like UFO, Captain Scarlet etc..
Funny thing is, I'm not actually a Bond car fan. Just so happens that one is a Lotus so had to be included. The Aston Martin is a brilliantly detailed model, right down to the retractable machine guns, rear bullet deflector and working ejector seat! I do love the movie and TV cars though. As well as the ones pictured I have bigger models of the BTTF DeLorean, Knight Rider and Batmobile. The only other one I really want is the General Lee but there is no way I'm paying the kind of money that people ask for that online. Any pictures of your models Paul?
I had the original Aston Martin, as you say with the ejector seat etc, as a kid..Loved it..Sadly, when we moved back to London from Marlow, my old man said he put our gear in storage, but many years later I spoke to the farmer he said gad it and turns out he sold it all to him. All my toy cars included..And why, to get money for his drink problem...
Fook's sake... Serena collects and plays Yakuza games on the PS4 & 5, she has all but 2 titles, the reason, silly prices like that General Lee car. From memory, apart from looking like the Dukes of Hazard car, it wasn't special. But I guess if you are fantasising about Daisy leaning in the window, you might pay it (God, those legs went on forever!!!
As for my old man, it wasn't the first time he did it, or the last. Mind you, a bloke that tricks his kid into delivering drugs for him even though he was selling them on behalf of some IRA goons, leading to me being threatened. Losing a set of toy cars was the least of my worries. And oddly not the only time the IRA threatened me (later when I worked for Maplin)
Lovely model car pics, Al and sorry to hear about the fate of your collection, Paul. You've mentioned your dad and his alcohol probs before destroying his life and the extra shit you and yours had to suffer... if ever there was a lesson on the adverse effects of the demon drink this is it. I tend to collect so much shite there is little room for anything else eg. tapes, soccer mags and programmes, vinyl, Orics, old computer leaflets/posters, old arcade machines - OK, I've only got 3 but they take up a lot of space, Orics... did I mention Orics??!! If I posted anything up, lads, it would only hurt your eyes and you would wish you hadn't asked... Anyways, you've prob worked out we made it home through storm Ashley (what's your current position, Al, blown 200 miles east of Aberdeen?!) and we had a smashing time in the land of Italia - mucho recommended-o. Will post a couple of Italia pics during the week that don't feature... Oric-ohs but now need to catch-up on some ZZzzzzs as we've been on the road since 3am today. Night, guys. PS. 100s of "cute" original Fiat 500s in amazing nick just sitting around waiting for some sad sod from Ull to go "Oooh, look, another vintage vehicle" Do remind me to tell you about the two couples who used to race Mini Coopers AND Lancia Stratos cars - you had to be there to believe it - both couples now in their 80s of course...their anecdotes were incredible.
That's one joy of the internet, you lose stuff, you can find it back. May cost a few quid, but sometimes it's worth it just for the memories they bring back. Glad you got back, must have been a little hairy up in the sky. Had one landing where we dropped like a stone and the plane made creaking noises like it was going to break apart. The drinks trolleys became loose and crashed about. Us lot on board were quite worried, the captain got a round of applause when he stopped. Never been to Italy, sounds / looked lovely. Love Al's car collection, I could warble on about how much I love models (the dinky kind, mind you....), but you all know that. I really would love an Eagle craft from Space 1999, but hell, do they go for big numbers..Oh, did any of you build the Airfix Saturn V model, the big old one that broke down to separates. Been after one of them for Yonkers, they do reruns on anniversaries, sadly again, at high prices.
I wasn't really into Airfix a great deal, done a couple but nothing I can even remember. On the car front though, I have just ordered the Lego Speed Champions Lamborghini and Ferrari F40 as they were going for under £14 each on Amazon. Will look nice in a display next to my Lego Lotus when I finally get round to building all three!
I loved all the model stuff, any Sci Fi stuff was my cup of tea. I'd build, paint and wire up grain of wheat bulbs etc You can see where my love of SFX started. The biggest model I built was the Saturn V rocket. I'd build stuff from Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek, Cap Scarlet, you get the drift. Never been a petrol head to be honest. There's a few old cars I like the look of, but as long as a car gets me there, I'm ok with it. The F40 looks nice, tthat's the one with the low back spoiler (I think), there was a Dreamcast game based on the car, F40 Challenge (I think).
