Whilst it looks in nice condition I'd not only have to be flush but slightly barmy to pay that sort of money for any home computer bar a tricked out Amiga.

I never really payed too much attention to the dimensions of the Dragon before, but does it seem oddly narrow compared to how deep it is to anyone else? It looks like the seller is an Atari fan too, anyone else bother to notice the mouse pad in the background?

Yep, prices for these computers are just as outrageous on your side of the pond too; I just clicked on the link and saw what was listed and what they are listed for...I think the worst of all is the 64C considering all...these Commodores rare? My foot.

Err...never mind, I just saw the Mattel Aquarius price, and knowing, rare or not, what a piece of shit machine it is, it's not worth a single penny, old and rare or not. I wouldn't even use one as a door-stop if given to me, they all deserve to be destroyed and forgotten forever! Believe me, I know, I had a friend back in the 80's who bought one out of a bargain bin for $25, and after using it with him, I felt so bad I gave him a 600XL I picked up while working at a Sears Outlet store for $25 along with my Tiaho(?) cassette deck (I had just gotten a 1050 at the time). We had fun smashing the Mattel machine to bits and using fire-crackers on it....sort of like the seen from 'Office Space' where they destroyed the printer!

    PMSL!

Lurving the comments on this one.

    Especially Matts re. the Aquarius.

Was anyone else even slightly tempted to buy one?

As Matt says, they were heavily discounted towards the end of their "time" and I recall saying to my mate Meds (when we both owned Beebs) "Fancy getting one for a laugh? I mean for £30-40 surely we can't go wrong?"

I am so glad to report that Meds had the sense to assure me that these cheapo excuses of excretion where every bit as bad as Matt reports and reason was retained and the retard retro was rejected.

C'mon, anyone else out there gonna confess to even been slightly tempted by one and the allure of the advertising??

    upload_2021-1-6_18-32-14.png
ABOVE: Truly Simple - and ultimately, stupid and shite too. A retard among retro computers.
What were Mattell thinking of when they made this heap? Actually, they'd probably
blame Radofin who produced it in Hong Kong, apparently (out of dead sea creatures/
    melted-down Speccies).

I'd also like to know what kind of a printer connects to this beast as the port looks like a 3.5mm jack socket. How weird is that?

Never even played with one, it just looked rubbish, did it even get a UK release?

I wanted a Tandy TRS80 more than one of those..

Lol...So many folks trying to jump on the bandwagon at the time, sadly the quality left a lot to be desired. I remember we had a bunch of Forth based machines like the SordM5 in stock that no one had a. heard of or b. wanted. I took a few of them home to have a play with, there was nothing wrong with them but they didn't have anything but basic feature's and a language I'd never used. I duly returned them and sent them back to head office as dead stock.. Our customers wanted one of two machine, something that would help them in electronics or had electronic projects linked to it and the Atari did, we had a digitiser, sound cards and other interfaces for it or they wanted a good old games machine with bright colours, lots on screen and great noise, the Atari filled those boots too.

Sadly our buyers had no clue at all about 'computers', they struck lucky with the Atari but most other choices were huge wastes of buying power, basically if it was cheap and said computer on it somewhere they brought them. What was daft was that we had computer knowledgeable people like me and some other staff who knew our bits but they never used us for buying advice. So as the Atari started to fizzle out we kept buy cheap stock for it, the where I said in the past where I was taking huge boxes of temple of apshai's home to use as blanks was not a joke. We were sent loads of these up to try and sell for a fiver I think but those times had long gone so instead of bin them I asked if I could take them and they were glad to see them go.

The trouble now was that there were these new machines that were looking good like the Speccy, the C64 etc but we had so screwed up on the computer front out imperious leaders decided to withdraw from computers and open more shops. bad choice, we had a name in the market already, we had the high street placement and big shops where we could properly display stuff but, nope, computers were a dirty word in the head office.

Didn't affect me though, I ended up running the branch, was taking a tidy sum home and was the apple of the bosses eye for turning good profit.

Didn't end well but hey most of it was a joy..

    PMSL!

    Totally fellas.

I share Paul's dismay at bosses/retailers making crappy buying decisions when it came to stocking certain 'lemon' models and not listening to the guys actually running the stores at the cutting edge/high street end of things who could see what the trends were and "what the kids wanted". Of course, they always think they know better.

I look forward, as Matt does, to some future disaster fitting into that gap at the rear (arse end) of the Aquarius such as a Mexican Swirl (an exotic and peak-emulating dog pile) OR...maybe.... Aquarius II - an enhanced piece of further developed nonsense and non-entity negativity to throw your noodles at:

    [IMG] [IMG]

Another dose of... diarrhea and digital disaster dished up diatribe...

    Feast on these features, retrofans:

The Aquarius II computer had similar characteristics as his little brother, the Aquarius computer. Internally the Aquarius II is equipped with the same 3.5 Mhz Z80 CPU, 4KB of RAM and the same 256 character set. An external 16 KB cartridge came with the system giving it a total of 20KB of memory. The programmable and hi-res graphics never made it to production.

The only real internal change to the Aquarius II is that Extended Basic is already built into ROM. The Aquarius II looks and behaves exactly the same as an Aquarius with the addition of the Extended Basic cartridge. This gives the system an extensive range of Basic commands, like CIRCLE, DRAW and LINE for more graphical options and DEF FN to define numeric functions.

But there are some differences as well. The Aquarius II looks more professional with its full sized keyboard. It even has a genuine spacebar!

With that spec, I'm amazed it didn't sell in (sick-) bucketloads, fellas...

Eh up, now that's a right bit of kit...(said in a Fred Trueman accent)

    NOT...

Seriously, they just rolled out tripe back then to get on the wagon...

Mind you with KFC (I still laugh when I think of it) rolling out a console this year with a chicken warming compartment (if it wasn't actually real you would think its just nonsense) it seems anyone can give it a go. really odd. The tech spec seems ok but to do a console roll out it takes a LOT of money and its a huge risk, even the almighty Sega knew when to call it a day.

Well I'm orf to warm me nuggets up!

Where did you find the info on an Aquarius II?!? How did anyone have time to develop it with such a short time the original was on the market?!? And WHY!?!? A keyboard is definitely a step up from the rubber one, but still...was this Mattel or someone else that thought it was a good idea to make a "II" version? And where do the cartridges and expansions go? WTF!!!

What's all THIS about then, now I HAVE to see WTF you are talking about! you can't just mention some KFC console with chicken warmer and leave it at that! How about a link at least! Did I just fall into a hole that took me to the LOONEYVERSE!? It's too early for April Fool's here Paul! Even with you saying it's real, I find this nonsense hard to believe!

I can't wait for a response, I have to do a search for this...whatever this is...

Guys, I talk shite sometimes but normally its informed shite, yes the KFC console is real and does indeed have a chicken warming spot :)

Imagine the Just Eat console, "Play like a G"

Or McDonald's Quarter Pounder with SSD...

The KFC console was hinted at in April which meant people took it as an April fools but then actually fully announce it with some decent spec while in partnership with a PC firm, Cool Master? (from memory) so on paper its real and sounds not too shabby but how do you convince software houses to get on board with what seems a joke console..Time will tell...

If you said last year that this year would be like this I'd have laughed at you but the joke is firmly on us..

We have a bloke who is the brother of one of Serena's friends, his name is Lee, he's a nice bloke but he became a drunk very early on in his life, he also does drugs but he hurts no one. He keeps losing jobs because he either turns up pissed or if its a shop he works in he nicks the beer. He's never abusive and you often see him just standing in the street dancing while listening to his headphones and supping a beer. He's become quite a local person of interest with people taking selfies with him, starting facebook pages (not seen myself) and just being Lee, Always a huge smile on his face, hurts no one and is as happy as a pig in shit....

Just shows you can be happy in many ways without being a pain...

Hehe, Oricians - keep your distance - you have nothing to lose except your attributes.

Paul, I like the look of Leapy Lee - he floats my boat - just needs to get that Gooner shirt off and go for one of your t-shirts and I'll join him down the precinct (2m away) with a bottle of cooking sherry each and a family pack of sherbert dib dabs.

    Sorted.

His favourite places are bus stops and bins, the bin give him somewhere to put his bear while he busts his moves..

He presently is working for our local Asda doing the trolleys, I was strolling down the road and noticed this guy with the trollies with a hi vis jacket on, bopping while supping a beer and thought Lee??
Sure enough it was him but I can't imagine Asda will be pleased with the beer on the job and as they sell beer I hope they don't let him near the storage area, he will help himself to a few...

Its such a shame as he is a real nice guy but I imagine his liver is pretty rotten..
