Hey fellas, You may remember the other week after Al had returned from his cross-border retro buying raids on the wee sassenachs and he unveiled his hordes n treasures, he brought back a CPC464 from the land of Orinoco, yeah? Well, you might remember me mentioning my mate at work (Ian) who had one back in the day and it brought back happy memories for him talking about OH MUMMY and HARRIER ATTACK etc, well he found his old CPC464 and is offering it up to anyone on here first before he/we tries elsewhere. It aint got a jossie (he's still looking) and there are more game tapes than the 2 he's found so far but what you definitely get is a working CPC464 in decent cosmetic condition (the odd mark here and there) and a curious thing with the tape deck in that the PLAY button when depressed makes a clicking noise and tries to jump back up... however, if you persevere for approx 30+ seconds, the clicking dies down and the button eventually remains depressed as it should do. The tapes have loaded perfectly without any hitch when I've tested his machine tonight, so it's nothing more than a slight irritation at first and then it settles down. I imagine this would be a simple fix if you are conversant with tape deck mechanisms... which I aint - cleaning the head(s) is about my limit OK, a few pics and to recap you get the CPC, games, joystick if he finds it AND the MP1 PSU modulator unit (which I see is priced around £35 on Feebay alone) and a RGB > SCART video lead solution for crisp displays to LCD monitors (worth £15), so you're getting the CPC for £50. £120 now (UPDATE - see bottom of thread - heavy item added so postage would have to be negotiated) - he wants to give the cash to his eldest son for when he starts Uni in autumn which is fair enough. ABOVE: Hunchback loads fine but needs a jossie to play ABOVE: the old classic Lothlorian strategy wargame All in all, a very nice example which will be carefully packed if you are interested, fellas. Just indicate your interest/drop me a PM. Payment PayPal F&F would probably work best - cheers - and let me know if you do need more info/pics.
Curses Andy, why did this appear after I bought one! Would this maybe interest our Richie @Vyper68 who has been getting his 8bit game on again lately? It's a bloody good bargain!
SOD's LAW strikes again, Al Over to you, Richie - are you able to hide two machines from Sonia without arousing retro suspicion?!
Are you guys trying to get Richie neutered by Sonia, we think they don't see these items, but trust me, wives spot everything us blokes do. They know and bide their time until there's something big they want and then spring on you should you try and waver. If you want his balls in a jar by the bedside, keep on
Oh, forgot to update this thread, guys. Ian now wants £120 as he's throwing this in (god knows how I'd ever post the bloody monitor though so looks like it will have to be a local pick-up sale OR split the darn lot). Never mind, all looking nice in working original condition right now, fellas:
Nice. Amstrad monitors are pretty good. Last for decades with very little issue. Just like the CPC itself.
You're so right, Al. Ian's had this little lot stuck away in a cupboard for... well, since back in the day! He's maybe had it out 3-4 times just for old time's sake but with a bit of luck it'll go to a new, more appreciative home soon.
A LAYDEE bought it, would you believe, Paul? Alison of Saltburn in Bev's and Richie's part of the country, well, the north east any road. Here's to a happy new home.
Andy, I will take the monitor but wouldn't be able to collect it from you until we meet in September. Can send the money earlier if you like though of course.
You might be stunned by how many devs / hackers / gamers are female. Take Sarah Jane Avory (or is it Avery??), she's a hardcore C64 dev with a string of rather excellent shooters to her name. I could bore with more names, but it's fair to say there's a lot of retro love from the fairer sex. Good to see Ian's gear has gone to two good homes. We know Al will make great use of the monitor, and at a great price too.
Superb fellas and you're absolutely spot on, Paul. Most retronauts I know are blokes but there are an awful lot I don't know who are clearly gals... and I need to get to know Cheers, Al. Monitor all yours. If you could send that Paypal of £20 through to me that would be swell and then Ian's all sorted. If you don't have my email addy then please PM. I already have that Atari mag put aside for you, mate, and I've picked-up summat else of late with your name written all over it which you can also have come your next visit in Sept... ;-) Cheers, guys - lovely when it all works out narce.
