I notice Rich just mentioned, in a recent thread, wishing he had a 1200XL.

Well, funny you should mention a 1200XL, Rich. I'm very very close to selling mine though the reason is to raise cash to pay overdue bills so I'm sorry but I can't let it go cheap cheap and it might well be best if I stuck it on Feebay to see what the market will pay. HOWEVER, we always try and offer folks on here first refusal SO, If anyone on here wants to send me a PM with their best best offer, I will consider it but it won't go for less than £200 and I'd preferably be looking, without wishing to sound greedy, for somewhere in the £300 region.

There's no box but it's in grade A condition and I will ensure it has a working PSU and video leads etc.

    Cheers, fellas.

PS. I will also be selling an Oric Atmos (with accessories) for £150; an Oric-1 (with accessories) for £120 and a ZX81 (with 16K RAM) for £50.

Again, please let me know if there are any offers/takers, guys.

Wow, what an awful set of days, poor Matt, just terrible for him, me with my car and now you need to flog your beloved gear...

    Not good all around..

And after hearing what the car is going to cost I'm afraid I won't be a taker or making offers Andy but you'll get the money from Ebay, 1200's are rare on there in this country and I'm sure the others will be snapped up..

Yeah, it sounds like Matt especially is having an absolutely heart-breaking and awful time, mate. You've got your shit with the car and idiots with the hammer and I've run into a stack of bills in the run up to Christmas (car insurance, VISA, overdue utility bills and basically overspent after our Norfolk hols with the expensive festive season looming). My worries though are nowt compared to Matt's heartache.

I truly am heartbroken for the fella, just something I dread, like you and him, our animals are family. Speaking of which with more bad news, Cindy went to see her mum and she's found that her mum has big lumps across her stomach that she kept quiet about and she's a bugger to get to go to the doctors, we have to fear the worst.

Oh and some shit punctured my replaced front wheel the day I took it to the garage..Brand new tyre..

Sorry to hear about the bills, debt is a bastard....Hope you get all the cash you need and the strain is lifted...

Such a shitty week for us all, sending a virtual man hug to Matt....Poor bloke.. The same hug for all of us :)

Wait, wait, wait... I seem to have lost much of the important things that are happening here among the AOC users.
Is Matt sick? What happened? Are we talking about Matt Baker? I'm sorry if I'm wrong but reading between the lines, I hear of many little and big trouble affecting our AOC friends.

Now, Andy is forced to sell part of his beautiful collection and I would love to help him beyond the possibility of buying the hardware (even if they are great computers). So I'll think about how I can bid for the items for sale.

I say it again: maybe I misunderstood everything here, but I'd like to know more about Matt, Graham, Paul and all the other guys who make this place rich of knowledge and experience.

    Hi Alex/Daz.
If you read the chat part of the forum on the "front page" you will see that poor Matt Baker has had some awful news about some of his dogs dying overnight literally in his arms. They have succumbed to some sudden, dreadful disease or ailment which has caused terrible suffering and heartache for all concerned. That is the most horrible news of late, Daz.

A little while ago, Graham's wife Pam has also gone through some awful condition that has made her very ill and has caused Graham an awful lot of worry and stress so that's been something that has developed this year and why we don't hear much from our old pal as his attentions are caring now for his poorly wife.

Paul has had a load of crap from the neighbours for a long time now but last week his car was involved in a low speed shunt/accident which has possibly written his car off. He's now also suffered a hammer attack on the vehicle and damage to a tyre and... his mother in law has some horrendous lumps in her stomach which his family are now very very concerned about... it's like, whatever next, mate?

Richie also has his aches, pains and struggles with his health but he battles through and I'm just basically currently battered by bills so really my probs can be sorted with a quick sale which will mean kissing bye to maybe 3-4 much-loved micros, but if it raises some dosh to keep the wolves from the door and put me back on an even keel for Christmas, then that's what must be done.

Please don't feel obliged to bid, Daz. Although I would have liked to have offered them at "mates rates", I cannot afford to do so, so I must look to get the market value but I just thought I'd mention them on here first before offering them on Feebay, Amibay or Marketplace. You never know, one of you might have won on the Lotto and fancy splashing the cash?!

It's been a very tough last 18 months and for some poor folk, life just took a distinct turn for the worse.

    Take care, guys.

Wow guys. So sorry to hear about so many of you having such a rotten time of it just now :(

Andy, I would be first in with a bid for that lovely 1200XL or maybe even the Atmos but I've had to rack up some rather big bills myself the last couple of weeks. Mighty generous of you to bring them to the AOC table first before EBay.

Folks, I really hope things start to improve for everyone soon. Take care.

Many thank for the update, Andy. So sorry for Matt's beloved pets and for Graham's current trouble. I hope his wife will pull through soon. Paul and Richie, please stay strong as you are. This bad period must have an end.

    Hi Alex,

I'm the least of the problem people, yes I have horrible neighbours, but I've had them for 5yrs and I fight them tooth and nail, the car is a pain but thanks to family I've reached the funds to pay for the repair, it will be hard for a little while, but we will survive. If it's the neighbours doing the hammer attacks and shredding my car tyres then I've set a camera up to watch for when the car comes back. So I'm actually ok in a crappy way.

Health and debt are the worst things, poor Matt and his pups are truly heartbreaking, most of us bond with our animals, some at a very low level so if anything happens to them, it's beyond painful. Poor Andy having bills is a nightmare, having myself been chased for £46,000 for the shortfall on my house I can feel the pain of debt, so we hope Andy can free him self asap, a shame it's at the loss of his machines.

Poor Graham and Pam and Richie have health problems as Andy said, I'm not religious but in my own way I pray / ask the cosmos to help these folk, life is more precious than most understand and as you get older you realise just how limited it is, having severe health issues just hurts the time we have. I'm less well than I want to be with some not so good health issues, but I'm an old battler who fights in the face of hard times.

But as I look out at the world I realise just how well off I am compared to those that don't have a roof over their head and no food or money to eat, that is real hardship and having done some of that when we left Northern Ireland I can say it's awful beyond compare, so I'm actually alright in the way of things. Andy will clear his debts, Poor Matt will slowly come to terms with the poor pups, and we hope Graham, Pam and Richie carry on being emulator happy chappies.

Hopefully we can all get back to what we call our own normality...And the sooner the better.

Lovely words, sentiments and compassion shown there, Paul.

It's truly heart warming, as it is with Alex/Daz reaching out and extending his warm wishes for folks on here to be better soon too, to feel the kindred spirit that comes from firm friends moving us with their sincere good wishes.

I think we're all sharing Matt's feelings of total loss over his beloved pup and old canine friend Taylor who meant the world to him. We're also remembering what the other lads have suffered too with either constant stress and strain due to noisy and unsociable neighbours and/or the gruelling pains through awful health conditions and injuries etc Paul (and his family), Graham's wife, Rich and others have mentioned from time to time - it's been a rotten couple of years (or more) for some of the fellas on here yet they still manage to smile through it all - incredible.

Aye, my present lot is just a case of rejigging some figures on a bank statement so I'm just bloody grateful to you all on this forum for reminding me just how incredibly lucky I am and how generous you all are with your time, advice, guidance, spirit of friendship and kinship you guys constantly show and give so selflessly.

It's at times of adversity that true friends come to the fore - I'd like to thank those guys who have been in touch and showed their innate kindness and gone the extra mile - you are incredibly lovely folks on here.

Many, many thanks to you fellas for being the amazing shining retro stars you are and may we all have much happier and more painfree days ahead of us as we near that time of year when we remember others less well off etc, as Paul so well pointed to above.

Guys, take extra good care and I'll be in touch with you all as we nearer Christmas to help spread a little more joy in your homes with a little gift through your letterboxes (even if it turns out to be one of my annual ridiculous retro cards!)

My very best wishes for better times ahead and I just hope Matt's heart aint totally broken and some of his beloved doggy pets have made it through to help him heal the awful wounds he feels inside.

Bless him and once more thank you, fellas.

LATEST... It's looking very good for the imminent sale of the 1200XL to Richie - everyone's a winner in the deal plus I get to see Richie's retro cave when I pile up to his place next month so standby for a full report on the "Sale of the Century"! Cheers, Rich.

I’ve had to bow out of this deal sadly, hopefully Andy can get a good price for it. In the meantime I’ll be taking a break for a couple of weeks.

Oh, sorry to hear Richie. I was just adding to the wall that it was going to a good home. Shame, you were the perfect person for it. Hope all is well, worries me when folk say "I'm taking a break", normally its code for problems.

Sorry I can't help with the 1200XL, just spent 1100.00 on the car, had to borrow from my daughter, but if there's anything I can do, just ask..

Hey, it's a little "personal" as it were, Paul, but the final price exceeded the asked-for £299 - by some margin.

I am delighted as the amount received now enables me to pay my Dec's debts whereas before the sale I was going to be knocking on my family's doors on Xmas Eve, the way things were shaping up, looking for loans to pay back loans which is a crap state of affairs in anyone's book.

The new owner is a gentleman, an amazing guy and friend for life.

Some would say, he's an XLent fella, and I am proud to confirm that it has gone to a fellow Atarian whom I know will cherish the 1200XL and make sure it continues to be looked after and probably enhanced/modded in the years ahead.

Thank you once more - all you guys - for all your help, support and morale-lifting texts, mails and financial assistance.

Sincerely, it's such a relief as I had no idea how I was going to get through this month which we all know is expensive for everyone and when you're already financially sunk going into it...
