Before I get into the details, I want to say that I am humbled and SO appreciative that everyone has continued to post and engage with each other here! My offline life is in a much different place than when I was able to be here with you, carrying on like the motley crew we are. As a result, I have not even had the free time to do more than an occasional check-in, and I regret that because you all have kept things interesting!! THANK YOU! Alright, on with details. At the end of the month/start of February, I am migrating the Club to a different server of mine, so you may experience a short period of time when the site acts strangely. You'll be logged in and then when you go to a post, you'll be logged out. And there may be other odd goings-on. Rest assured, it's standard when the nameservers get changed and for 24-72 hours, the world's nameservers around the planet update to the new information. Just ahead of the migration, I will need to lock down the Club to avoid any lost posts once migration begins. Beyond those details, I am anticipating no other issues. I've done several site migrations this month and all have gone smoothly-- with the only "glitch" being the updating of nameservers around the world. The longest it took for nameserver propagation to finish was 24 hours, and that was a site much, much larger than the Club. Watch for my updates in the days ahead! And again, THANK YOU, fellow Atari owners!! --Tim, an Atari owner.
+1 Allen, we owe Tim a great deal allowing us this space to chat and post about our passion for Atari and other formats.
The rumour is that Tim is the digital ghost of all our Christmases past, Paul. So long as we BELIEVE in him, he will keep the home fires burning and our hobby alive in cyber / cider space. Good on yer Tim and we sincerely hope that you and yours are well and one day welcome you back into our motley crue/crew! Take care, mate, and let's hope the migration does indeed go smoothly and we see each other once more...."on the other side"
Thank you, everyone-- but let's be clear: all praise and credit goes to you all. I'll say this: I didn't expect my life to take the turn it did, upending my plans and intentions as far as having a go at some unfinished Atari programming from years back, to toss out to the Atari community as my contribution. Now, my Atari time has become... well, let's just go with diminished. If not for you all, there wouldn't be a reason to keep the lights on here, ya know. And hosting this forum continues to be a privilege for me to provide you so you can carry on like the mad men that you have made yourselves out to be. Speaking of the turns one's life can take... I was notified Monday that my baby brother (52) had been found passed away in his rig, and I'm still trying to process that whole... well, I haven't settled on the right word to describe it since I'm still working through the "seven stages of grief." We had plans, too, Roy and I. And he was to inherit the property when Deb and I passed, since we all lived here. Ugh! Something about the best-laid plans of mice and men, comes to mind. Back to business, however: I am going to leave it to you Atari owners (and friends! ) to choose the date to begin the migration. I can get it underway as early as this weekend-- or do the migration on the 25th, when my other server changes are scheduled to begin to move forward. Reminder: once the migration is completed, it usually takes 24-72 hours for the change to update across the internet. When I initiate the migration process, I will close the forum. When you reach the forum and it's open, you're at the new location, since I will re-open the board once migration is completed. Migration itself happens pretty quickly; I'll have the direct IP to make sure everything is still working after the migration and to re-open the forum ahead of the propagation update. --Tim, An Atari owner
Tim, so sorry to hear about your brother, condolences from me and mine.. My brother and I fell out many years ago, don't even know where he is. As for the migration, you are the boss, you pick.. I hope the laid to rest plans go well, and remember, they are never gone as long as you remember them.
Oh, Tim... Our hearts go out to you and yours on the loss of your dear brother - that's no age. So, so, so sorry, mate. It's been a terribly sad time of late (we've had 2-3 sad and premature passings and funerals to attend). Our thoughts are with you though right now and god bless your Roy. As Paul says, do the site migration when it fits in best for you - we'll go with the flow and thank you once more - from our hearts, heads and silicon chips - for keeping the lights on here - it's always a warm welcome from the regular guys on board but it's often said that the mood/vibe of a place takes its lead from the head honcho so all credit to you too, Tim, as your friendly, good-natured and natural bonhomie set the tone from day 1 of Atari Owner and of course for setting us up with such a cool site to hang out in is a privilege in itself. You and your family take great care and we all hope to see and hear a little more "the other side" of the transition, fella. Our sincere condolences, Tim & family, from Andy and Bev in England.
Very sorry to hear about your brother Tim, my deepest condolences to you and your wife. As Paul and Andy both said, just do the migration whenever you can. Take care Allen
Good morning, everyone! I'm going to switch the site to Offline now, in preparation for migration to the new server. Check back, and if the site shows as Closed or Offline, either the migration hasn't completed or internet propagation is not completed. See y'all soon! --Tim
WOW... I think I blinked and missed it! GRRReat work, Tim. I feel like we're now in a slightly different "universe" having warped out of one server and into a new zone. I'm gonna get an "away team" to beam down to the new planet surface and I've got some nice bright red jerseys here... who's up for volunteering? Lads? Where you gone? LADS?!
Hey, I'm glad to see you made it too, Paul. Just hoping Al, Matt, Richie, Tim, Klyde, Daz and the rest of the boys are along soon... in fact I aint heard from Matt in a week or so - hope he's OK and not picked up a red jersey - Come in, Matt - you got yer ears on down there and I'm not referring to Spock's. PS. Saw a massive bag of something like 1400 Yorkshire Tea sachets earlier and thought of Matt - in Seventh Heaven enjoying a brew or 10... ;-) Essential for successful starship voyages and "away team" tea parties...
It's out tea of choice as it happens.. Used to be PG Tips but then they started to get bit's of tea coming out of the bag..
