Don't take Baz's word for it - YOU DECIDE!

Here's the crazy cat now though to walk you through and bore your socks off this 1982 fly boy classic from Konami...

It is a bloody hard game Andy, but a nice shooter all the same. I hadn't tried it until the A8 version, will need to give the coin-op a go sometime.

It's a game that I saw in the arcades, but I never played, it's just a game that never piqued my interest. The first real time I looked at it was when the Atari version came out, and I admired that it was a bloody excellent port, but as much as I tried to play it I found it a bit unforgiving, you could suddenly lose a set of lives because the planes etc would sometimes just wedge you in with nowhere to go.

I still admire the quality, but it's just a bit too hard at times..

Well done to Andy for making it to the UFO's, I have no idea how many waves that is but good on yer ol fella :)

    Cheers, Paul.

It is ROCK hard but because it takes me back to my misspent childhood, I just kept feeding the sod in our local arcade until some git wrecked the control stick and it wouldn't turn properly any more, it still pulls at my memory locations and heartstrings.

I recall a real snowy Christmas around 1986 and playing this thing for hours after tea with Phil n Bill (the Flowerpot men) and then me and my mates snowballing some lasses up and down our high street. We fancied em and I still can't figure why they were running away as our snowballs / blocks of ice hurtled after em and why we thought this would somehow endear us to them... no wonder I stayed single until I was 38. No bugger (in a skirt) could understand my twisted logic!

LOL - a great game and yes, the waves go like this: first 1910 biplanes (easy once you've had half a dozen warm up games if yer a noob); second 1940 and those Spitty's which are a bit faster and turn quicker and there's also bonus bombers to bag which also fire at you so the screen starts to fill-up with hostile fire; 1970s Heli-choppers - you're in intermediate territory now where the choppers send heat seakers at you and you must twist and turn like a wild thing, blast em out the skies ASAP - else yer toast. If I remember right, I got to the end of this level on my top score effort (92,000). The next level is very hard - the quick jets and their missiles come at you even faster and more furious. The final level is insane - UFOs but I can't recall what weaponry they use. All I know is that this level's survival rate is measured in milliseconds! Those aliens don't take prisoners.

Cheers, Paul and Al - enjoyed the comments and opinions as ever and do give this one a shot, Atarians as I think it would prove a "grower" on you fellas.
