TV has moved up in the moral sense, racism is removed mostly unless it's a plot point, gender gets better treatment (but so overplayed at times). My TV as I was growing up was Callan, Pennies from Heaven, The Singing Detective and the like. I think they still stand up pretty well. OK, production values have improved and with the use of CG it can make stuff look more flash, but I'm talking stories, characters, quality of acting, enjoyment and all of that sort of stuff. I even enjoyed the kids stuff more than now, The Multi Coloured Swap Shop was ace, Tiswas had some great moments (but enough about Sally James in thigh length leather boots), it was all very enjoyable. Now it's all trying to tell kids more adult themed stuff as a form of almost brain washing. On the other hand, some of the new kids stuff is just VERY weird. There are some good shows like Line of Duty, Vera etc but I look at these new shows and they remind me of the old style. A lot of the new stuff is just dire, Love Island, Celebrity Juice to name 2, utter pants if you ask me. I just think some old stuff still entertains a hell of a lot more than some of this new fangled crap..
100%. Too many channels now and not enough quality to go round. It's crazy when you think of the amoutn of streaming services as well. As for all the celebrity stuff? No thanks! p.s. Maggie Philbin for the win, COR
I'll take yer Maggie Philbins and Sally Jameses and throw Sarah Jane Smith into the mix... such a pretty lady Agreed, fellas - too many channels, too much production of low quality shit appealing to the lowest common denominator audiences and brain dead programming from those who think we need to gag on a diet of Reality TV shows - sack of shit IMHO! We are being brainwashed on a massive scale, folks and sold short.
Glad it's not just me regarding the TV quality, some days I just look at TV and think what agenda this programme is pushing. The worst offender, the news. Just report the news, for heaven’s sake, stop hand-picking stuff that the political side of that news corp supports or not. Sadly, that's never going to happen, as the politics of the news is more important than the news itself. Thank goodness for old boxsets...
Exactly, mate. I completely ignore 99% of the shite that they try to pump into our homes as like you, I know the kind of crappy mind games they play and I'm definitely not interested in their (bollocks) content. Much more fun picking and choosing something from ye days of old or banging on an old film / You Tube or even, shock horror, listening to WIRELESS/RADIO or having a chat - they haven't put VAT or tried to control our bandwidth there.... yet!
