If anyone is after a PS4 I’m selling my Uncharted 4 PS4, it’s not a slim and is not a PS4 Pro but the original shape and model and is in pale blue/grey with Nathan’s motto and picture on the top, comes with matching controller which I’ve serviced and replaced the silicone pads and fitted new springs and battery. I have opened it and redone the thermal compound on the PS4 and given it a deep clean as it’s well outside it’s warranty. Open to offers.
Are you giving up on the PS4 altogether? I just got my first one a month or so ago and have been really impressed with it so far.
You found one that was available to buy? (at normal prices?) I wanted a PS5 for this haptic feedback, sounds fun, but way too much money and it would just be another console hurting my neck...
Very nice Richie, what do you think of it so far? Is it able to play PS4 discs? I was always more of an XBox fan but have to say that I find the PS4 really good (and very noisy!). Especially like the controller, just seems to fit my hand better than the Microsoft pads.
I prefer the 360 pad to the PS4 pad, I've got big hands and the PS4 pad feels skinny in them, but the console I do like.. As for consoles, I'm not a fan boy, I see what is getting good stuff and go for that, I've got consoles from all the big names, only did I buy the next one out with the Xbox, went to a 360, but then I swapped to Sony...
I suppose in my time I've had consoles from all the big games. Still remember queuing up at midnight for the launch of the Dreamcast and PlayStation One Right now I've got a PS2, PS4, Megadrive and Atari 7800 in the mancave and XBox 360 in the living room. Everything else is done under emulation on my pc usiing a Saturn USB gamepad. The Megadrive still gets used a fair bit for playing Sensi, Super Off Road and Dragon's Fury on. My main criteria is that any machine must have a decent version of Ridge Racer or Sega Rally on it lol.
I've never been much of an early adopter of machines, I've always been cautious of what they have at launch, having seen a Japanese PSX with Ridge Racer I was keen so got a PSX much earlier than other machines. The Dreamcast shows my ties to the dark side, I liked the machine but noticed it was short on software, what was out was good but it wasn't taking off here in the UK, but when the hackers made it boot CDR's I went out with a mate and I think it was going for 25 quid at that point and got one. The Gamecube I got for Metroid and Zelda, the Wii was another machine that when they found a way to exploit it, I got one and again at a good price. The Snes remains a great machine to have, such a wealth of good stuff on it and the sound, so much nicer than the Megadrive The Xbox and 360 were the only machines I got one after the other, both have a big library, the PS4 was for my daughter but we both enjoy it with me being the more using of it these days. The PS2 was a swap with one of Andy's mates for a Lynx, I like it for the Sony only stuff, otherwise it mirrors the Xbox release list. Oddly, I do play some emulated Megadrive stuff, again for the Sega only titles, but the YM sound just grates on my tinnitus.
I’ve been a Xbox user since the OG Xbox in 2001 but I have picked up the odd Sony machine when they have been available for a while. I didn’t originally plan to get one as I have a Series X and that’s a good console, but having spent some time round my mates place I decided that I would raise some cash and buy one. So I sold a chunk of retro stuff off and I was able to find a disc based PS5 for it’s normal RRP from Very so took the plunge. I have to admit that I’m really impressed with it, my XBox Series X is a great machine but I really like the UI on the PlayStation and it’s easy to add some additional storage. The thing I’m most impressed by is the new controller, I thought that this dual sense stuff was a load of marketing stuff but I was wrong. The vibration is in stereo if that makes sense and the triggers can stiffen up. For example, I was playing Quake on the PS5, when you use the shotgun you pull on the trigger it depresses halfway and then you have to pull harder just like you would for real. It also plays PS4 games Al, and if you have PlayStation Plus you can stream PS1,PS2 and PS3 games. My PSN ID is DarthWhippet if you want to send me a FR and XBOX is Vyper68
The PS5 controller sounds interesting. Have you thought about getting the new PS5 VR set when it comes out? I'm not on the Playstation Network, does that mean I can't do online games?
You need to have a PSN ID and be a subscriber to get online play. It’s like how you need the old XBL Gold to play online on XBox.
I dropped out of online play many years ago, me and a mate played Action Quake, a really nice er Quake mod, but the cheaters started to move in and it ruined it for us, bloody aiming bots etc. I just never felt ok about it even with all the anti cheat software, bit odd me complaining as cheating games is one of my fave things, but it's the execution of it rather than the actual play.. I think the last game I did play online was Battlefield on the 360, but I got bored with it. So want to see / feel this haptic feedback and the super SSD loading speed, I forget what duo game it is, either Ratchet and Clank or Jak and Daxter where it loads in a whole 3d world in the blink of an eye, sounds amazing and what I saw from the shows was just wonderful. Sigh, jealous
The loading times are very fast on the PS5 and Series X even compared to my old Xbox One X with a SSD drive. The feedback on the triggers was something I wasn’t expecting but it definitely adds an extra dimension to games. I don’t play online much, I restrict it to friends only. I don’t have any desire to play with the great unwashed yoof. I remember playing Quake 2 online using a dial-up modem I think the last time I played anything with random players was Quake 3 Arena on PC.
I could never justify a PS5 because of the cost and also because I only really play driving, sport and the odd puzzle games. Everything else is stuff like Galaga and Arkanoid. I limit myself to a maximum £100 on any machine now so maybe in about 15 years I can get a Playstation 5
I'd like a PS5 for that new tech, but my poor neck just makes in a true pain. In 15 years I'll probably be a dribbling wreck
The PS5 is a big step up from a PS4 in terms of loading times and performance. Playing Destiny 2 @ 60fps is fantastic. Only niggle is the battery life of the controller. I’ll still use the PS4 for some of the older games and I have my Fat PS3 and PS2 as well. I’m getting back into my Nintendo stuff right now. Mainly Wii U and GameCube stuff and I’m probably gonna pull my N64 out the cupboard next week.
