I have decided to pare down my collection and to move my QL on. I don’t use it so it’s taking up space I need for new Atari kit.
It’s upgraded to Minerva 1.98 and Toolkit 2 and has the extra 512KB RAM and has a Kempston floppy disk interface. Has an upgraded I/O chip called Hermes.
It comes with Manual, PSU and SCART lead and some Microdrives and 3.5” Disks
There are some photos on my blog to show the machine in question. If anyone is interested the drop me a line to discuss, but bear in mind that I will be looking for around £200 due to all the expansions and upgrades. I won’t be able to accept ultra low offers but I will try to give mates rates for members.

    Details of upgrades below...
I replaced the keyboard membrane and fitted a new bubble mat ( a extra spare is also included )
I replaced the ribbon cables for MDV1 & MDV2 with the Farnell part mentioned on the forums - both MDV1 and MDV2 read/write and format
I fitted a Hermes I/O chip and still have the old IC as well
I fitted Tetroid's 7805 Voltage Regulator replacement and removed the Heatsink ( you can have it if you want it I still have it )
I fitted an internal 512KB RAM expansion
I fitted a 27c512 EEPROM with Minvera 1.98 & TK2 and removed the JM ROMs ( sadly one of the pins of one of the JM ROMs broke so they are included but damaged )
    Included is ...
Issue 5 Sinclair QL with external MDV cover and ROM cover and also with Manual, PSU & RGB SCART lead
Kempston Disk interface fitted ( purchased with this fitted and expansion cover missing )
Boxed QL Paint, Loose GraphicQL, QL Chess, 3.5 Disks ( Various )
Sinclair QL Sales Brochure & Order form.

Sounds an absolute beauty and upgraded to the teeth / maxed-out to a very satisfying degree, Rich.

Sadly, like you, I must trim the retro flock down a little so I'm not in the running as space and dosh are severely limited at the mo but for someone such as Dazza (Alex Drito) he may well be tempted or know of someone who would give their right arm, right antenna and right joystick port for some little QL treasure such as yours.

Again, I never really got into them "back into the day" but I lurved the Sinclair blurb at the time and the look and promise of power that seemed to be waiting under the hood (and your model is at least a hundred times better than the original in terms of RAM and drives access!!)

What was it, Sinclair Research said at the time... THERE IS NO COMPARISON CHART AS THERE IS NO COMPARISON!

    Well, there you go, fellas!

Good luck with the sale, Richie - it deserves to do well and make someone looking to do a Quantum Leap, very happy indeed...

    Wow, nice machine Richie :)

I bought a magazine for it one year while I was on holiday in Lowestoft and spent most of the week pouring over every single page in awe at how powerful it looked.

Pretty sure this won't be around for long, it looks like a great machine and you certainly don't see many around with such a good spec.

    Great, Rich.

I hope you got your asking price, mate.

Thankfully, I managed to shift a couple of my retro units as I had gone way, way, way overdrawn at the end of last month so I know how it feels when there are too many retro beauties/beasts kicking around and not enough dosh to keep the wolf from the door.

Needs must etc and we've still PLENTY to play with.

Didn't think it would take long to sell Richie. Lovely machine.

It's never great letting machines go but sometimes it makes you focus your attention more on what you already have.
I'm just moving things around a little bit this afternoon to make room for a 6128 :)

I'm going for less machines but more fun Andy. Think I've caught the bug again. No, not that 'bug'. I'm talking about the retro gaming one :)

Thanks, Andy, for pointing me up for this sale. It's gone and I'm glad that Vyper68 has got the price he requested. Such a good configuration and those extra deserved that amount of money. I've got enough QL machines and I liked them although they kind of remain a little bit obscure in terms of usability. Nostalgia is the keyword for me when it comes to QLs.

    You are very welcome, Daz.
I know you are quite a whiz when it comes to the QL so your name was first up in my memory banks.
Keep an eye on your letterbox for an incoming retro greetings card which is, as ever, in the worst possible taste!
Take care, buddy and enjoy a very festive holiday ahead with your dear family.

Oh well, I know that "making XMas cards with the mentally ill" is a yearly activity that you never miss. And it's so appreciated here by me and Virginia, my littlest daughter. It's become a sort of tradition here, waiting for Bazza's card and trying to guess what sort of trashy image composition he's managed to put together this year... :) We just love them and we have a special box in order to collect them all! :)

And each year I promise myself and Virginia to return the favour, and in this 2020 so miserable and unfortunate we could still make it on time. It's only Dec 6, after all...

LOL! I'm staggered and believe that this "special box" to keep them in must look something like this, Daz:

Good luck with yours, mate and as ever, all the very best to your family, Dave.

AHAHAH, the box is not like that, but it's a good idea...

    All the best, m8.

Think Ted liked a beer, his nose is as red as dustys :)

Actually Dusty look like I feel I look...Slight tightness on the chest today, was there yesterday but its a little more, not causing the slightest breathing issue but the fact I can feel it is nagging me...Bloody covid, even though I may have a cold too it seems to be playing the ' look at me, its all to do with me' thing..

How did Bev feel though her dose Baz?

    Hi, Paul.
Bev was washed out and in bed for the best part of a fortnight, mate.
Definitely not herself - listless, lethargic and sleeping a lot of the time.
She had a sore throat and a bit of a cough and it affected her sense of taste/smell etc.
After about a week she developed a little bit of a fever/temperature which she put down to her body fighting the virus.
She then got a lot better and finally returned to work towards the end of May.
Incidentally, over a dozen of her colleagues were all affected about the same time and some of them have not returned to work and are still badly feeling the after effects. Others have come back only part-time as they are still weakened to a degree and I think she's probably about the fittest of the lot who were first diagnosed with COVID.
By the way, our kitchen fitter returned today to complete his list of snags/things to do and he's looking and feeling pretty much 100% now as is our mate Mark who was in Hull Royal's ICU just a month back - he lost a stone fighting it and couldn't breathe properly so was put on a ventilator. He is right as rain now, bud, so take some heart from the folks who have fought back successfully.

Thanks for the details Andy, just looking as a rough guide of what we could be in for..

I'm still in the very mild occasional cough, a bit bunged at times but feel 99% Cindy feeling more like Bevs problems and Serena just feels miserable mind you she's been left holding the cleaners cap while all the others bugger off but can't really handle it all.

Its annoying her as she planned to stay there til nearer Xmas and use the free time to explore central London a bit more at less travel cost and enjoy herself but all this is in tatters now. No wonder she's miserable, not like she can up sticks and come here at the moment. plus others seem to be getting it there in Uni...

Glad to hear there's been a set of folk back right as rain (especially Chris). Shame it also has a longer term effect on some.

I know, mate. It's been a total lash-up and horror story for some whereas others have got over it and it's hardly scratched the surface. Bev has mentioned the work of T cells and the amount of vitamin D we have in our bodies which could be a factor in how well our bodies fight the virus.

I read somewhere about the government giving vitamin D tablets out to vulnerable people so that would correlate with that article.

I was told of the vitamin D but it was a little late on so apart from egg yolks I don't have a source of it but fingers crossed I'm muddling through and still feel well.
