Hi, Does anyone have a spare 800XL they are willing to either sell or swap for one of my other 8-Bit's? Doesn't need to be boxed or have a power supply. Just the basic computer. Richie.
Hi Richie, I could have 1 spare 800xl for you at a low price (30.00€) but: 1. I have to check if it is a PAL or SECAM one, 2. It is faulty and I have to fix it before. 3. Not sure the shipping cost + customs would be a good deal. You tell me, someone here must have a better offer.
Hi Manu, If it is a PAL model I would be very interested, I don’t mind having to repair it either, I have a spare SALLY, ANTIC, GTIA and POKEY kicking around so should be able to get it working.
Sorry, wish I could help, I have an XL but it's been used for spare parts to convert my 1200 to PAL, so missing the chips you have and a few others but the main one that is an issue is the clock crystal which is incredibly hard to get. Also it was the machine that went yellow screen after a bungle with the U1MB, my friend Colin had a look at it and used parts from another project to see if it would work and it did but the parts were needed so he could not spare them.
If I fitted a VBXE to my 65XE I need to remove my PAL Crystal from the main PCB so I would have a spare one to repair it. Hopefully Manu has a PAL XL but if not I might take it off your hands as a project for 2022 if you’re amenable
I have no probs with you having it Richie but I worry for its reliability and the Yellow screen problem..
I don't doubt it Richie Here a txt version of the note from Colin.. 800XL does work, but will need the following components which were borrowed for another project to get it up and running again: 1x 6502C Sally CPU [C014806] 1x PAL ANTIC (C021698) 1x PAL crystal (CO16112) 1 X XL/XE OS Rom (e.g. CO61598B (XL/XE Rev 2) or programmed 27C128 EPROM My video is terrible so l could also benefit from a Supervideo 2.1 modification or a UAV
Well, BBC Model B ( with ATPL ROM/RAM Board, PiCoPro, 32KB Shadow RAM, Disk Interface & Gotek and a Videonula enhanced ULA ) CPC6128 with 1MB RAM and a M4 ZX Spectrum +2 They all have Manuals.
The Beeb is pretty much pimped to the max it has DFS and ADFS ROMs on the ROM board along with 16KB of sideways RAM. With the board you have a total of 15 ROM sockets. It can be fitted with some components and a battery to provide a battery backup but it wasn’t fitted as standard so mine didn’t have it. The manual is ridiculous, it’s like War & Peace, but it covers just about everything you need. BBC BASIC is very good, and very fast. You can also embed 6502 assembler within the BASIC listing which is pretty neat. I have BBC FORTH on ROM along with the ACORN GRAPHICS ROM which adds more commands and sprite support, along with various other ROMs. The NuLa board let’s you redefine the 16 colours the BEEB uses out of 4096. Has extra modes as well and with the board fitted and CoPro enabled there are CPC and ZX Spectrum emulators you can run. The Pi Zero Co-Pro is good, you have various cores and can run the BBC Master enhanced version of Elite using it. It has 6502, 6809 and Z80 cores so you can run CPM or FLEX as well as ARM cores. You can also run it at native speed so with a Pi Zero that’s 1Ghz instead of 2Mhz.
I've thought about it, but don't think I'd use the Beeb enough to do it justice. And the last two 6128's I've ended parting with as well (something about them always seems to drag me back in lol). Hope you get a swap Richie, I'm sure someone will jump at one of them.
I’ve done all that and it’s never been used this year. I think a lot of the time I enjoy the modding and upgrades more than using them, outside of my C64, Dragon and 65XE I’m not using many of them. Which is why I’m up for some going. I’ve sold the HX-22GB now so that’s another moved on.
Eeeh, Richie. I know where you guys are coming from and like the fellas say, it is ALWAYS so tempting to take on another machine. I have a lovely Beeb though it is no way as pimped up to the max as yours - it's incredible and will surely clearly £200-250+ if you were to sell it but every now and again, like Al, I think about an Amstrad but I know it would be mainly a FLIRTATION! The romance would be DOOMED! Some other retro fancy would turn my head and I would show all my previous infidelities to the Amstrad (not to mention get back in the red with me finances if I were to buy such a beast) so I'd best not go down that path either, even though what you offer here Rich is so very very nice. I agree with Al, someone somewhere is going to really be blown away with either of your swap offers, mate - they're both the dog's wotsits.
I wonder what it is about the Amstrad in particular, loads of people seem to have a soft spot for it. Maybe because it always seemed like the underdog to the Speccy and C64 back in the day. I still play 180 darts and Oh Mummy on emulation a fair bit And Pinball Dreams on it is just amazing for an 8bit game.
Hopefully @Klyde will come up trumps and have a PAL 800XL and the Beeb can stay in the cupboard. But I wouldn’t be sorry to see it go somewhere where it would be used.
@Klyde will surely find the right machine for you. I also may have an 800XL as a spare machine but I must check properly because it was a lot of 2-3 Ataris I bought 3-4 years ago. It included a 600XL, 800XL and 130XE. Machines only, no PSUs. I mean, if you're not in a hurry.
Hi @Vyper68 the 800xl I have is a SECAM one (with a Freddie chip and an FGTIA). Do you still want it?
