Yesterday morning my semicolon key was slow to relinquish control. This morning it absolutely refused. When I first saw this 800xl a few years ago the keyboard was completely inop. I cleaned it and it worked. This morning I opened it up again. Clean, inspect, reassemble. Semicolon was OK but then the 'n' key was a problem. Clean, inspect, reassemble. All good. I wonder which key will misbehave next. I ordered the AKI PS2 keyboard thing a week ago, so I'm hoping it'll be here soon. Here's a pic of the keyboard I hope to use soon.
That ol PC-style keyboard certainly takes me back to the early-mid 90s, fella. I can hear and feel the solid build and key response of that keyboard from here! Keep us informed, mate - interesting stuff indeed and let's hope the ol 800XL keyboard behaves itself in the meanwhile
Good luck with the keyboard Cy. Is that an old PS/2 keyboard you had already, or a new one you bought?
I bought that years ago because desk real estate was a concern. Later I needed to use a USB keyboard so this one has been on a shelf for years.
Update: I get my AKI PS2 Keyboard Interface yesterday. No instructions at all. i scraped together enough information to sort of get it installed - the PCB gets inserted between the main board and the pokey chip. Couldn't find the pinout, though, and the reseller sent a picture that was no help. I'm supposed to figure out the pinout from this picture
