What's new Pussycat too?

I'm in the caravan now and it is lashing down outside.

Still it wasn't too bad until about 1pm and I have managed to pick up some things off my wants list

 

Aye, Al took a trip oot to Beverley (market town where I work 8 miles out of Ull) and was amazed to get in and out of town intact without one of our daleks, I mean traffic enforcement officers, exterminating him! Well done, Al. You passed your East Yaarks proficiency test, Stage 1. Stage 2 tomorrow neet - ask for a pattie buttie and wonder why no one has a clue what one is outside of Ull

 

THIS IS VERY TRUE - Al's boot is loaded with BOOTY from his travels - not kidding you lads, you cannot fit anything extra in the back of his car - filled to the gunnels with retro gear, pictures, collectibles and what nots... and he aint finished yet - Al, yer gonna need a bigger BOAT!!

 

Certainly going to need a boat in this weather!

Had a look at the area, some nice places like the Lighthouse museum and tons of lovely walks in the area. Enjoy...

 

Very well kept Paul. Clean, nice park areas. Lots of seats and picnic benches. Lovely spot to spend an afternoon. I'll go back again to visit the museum when it is open.

I'm in Blackpool just now. Makes Withernsea look like Monaco!!

 

Never been to Blackpool, but it looks far too busy for my liking. It feels like how people in the south say to go to Southend. Sadly, when you get there you see it's just a tourist trap and a bit of a dive in all honesty. Plus, it's a thug haven, especially at night. That's sort of how I imagine Blackpool to be.

But as I've never been there, I can only hope I'm wrong.

I love the look of that little village by the sea that they filmed Doc Marten in, a Cornish place possibly....Looks idyllic.. Also would love to see Tobelmory (hope the spelling is right..)

This part week I've been most impressed with Andy's hometown of Withernsea, it was a lovely little place. Clean and well tended down at the seafront and gardens. I'll certainly visit there again. Don't have any plans for computer shows next year yet but it certainly won't be Blackpool Play Expo again as I've done it three times over the years now.

Heading back home today but I've stopped off in Morecambe. It's a bit run down but they're trying to sort things and it's due a new Eden Project attraction in the next couple of years. Plus, it has 3 retro game stores lol.

 

It's sad, a lot of the seaside towns have gone into disrepair, they don't need 20 fish and chip shops, 300 vendors selling tripe or a million and one penny arcades, they just need to be nice to visit. Andy's old stomping grounds look really nice, as you say, a tidy place is just what a soul needs to get some pleasant time. Yeah, sure, they need a summer trade, but not the sort of thing that would attract the thug element.

That place they filmed Ballamory looked really nice, more than just a row of hellish pained houses, it just looked a good place to have a stroll. Probably not at any other time than summer. A bracing wind off the Scottish coast is, I believe, a cold thing

 

Heart-warming comments to take to my Uncle Russ's in just a mo, folks, as we drop off his weekly washing and have a cuppa and a catch-up after our Sunderland adventures (nearly scrapping with the L*eds hooligans Fri night after the match). Russ is another W'sea old boy so to hear his old hometown favourably compared to Blackpool, Morecombe and Southend is a real bonus/feather in the cap. Have a nice day, fellas. Catch you laterz. Rain due soon and there's more gardening to be done. Toodle pip and hope you're keeping well, Paul, and Al has a safe journey home with all his booty - poor ol Rich got ram-raided from an over the border raid!! Yes folks, I've been on a cross border raid again visiting my beloved North Yorkshire coast and at the same time having my fill of some retro fun. A carboot full and 1100 miles later I reached home again and took some photo's of what was new to my collection.

Managed to get a good few games scored off my wishlist. These came froma mixture of CEX and some independent games stores. I was most chuffed with Food Fight on the 7800, a bargain at only £5.


A liittle change of pace next with a couple of handheld electronic games for a combined total of £6. The Computer Shed is an amazing collection of old mainframes and micros halfway between Scarborough and York. Spend a lovely couple of hours getting a guided tour from the owner. Fascinating place and well worth a visit.


Slim pickings for this pussycat at Blackpool Play Expo, but I did pick up a couple of Amiga magazines from the publishers stand.


My tin sign collection continues to grow with another 6 new offerings. I was very chuffed with the Atari on the Rocks one, hadn't seen that anywhere else before.


I was keeping within my budget until I received a PM from our very own Richie. He had a C16 for sale and I have been hankering after the little beastie for a while. Thanks mate!


As Richie was showing me some of his collection he had strategically placed this great condition Dragon 32 where my eyes were instantly drawn to the little Welsh wonder. A deal was struck and it found it's way heading North with me...


Finally, as I neared home one last diversion to Forgotten Worlds so I could pick up a few Commodore 16 games to play. At the same time a trio of Atari cassettes caught my attention for the Atari corner of my little retro cave. The very last icing on the cake was the Pacman shaped plug and play tv game. I had been keeping an eye open for one all through my trip and here it was just a few miles from home. Sorted!

Well thanks to Allen I was able to add to my collection of consoles and to order a new keyboard membrane for my CoCo2 all the way from Australia.

Nice work all round, fellas - that's great to see when two guys on here both get a result from the same deal - AND an outstanding, trip Al.
I don;t know where to begin and I'm fecked and heading oop them stairs to la la land in just a mo so I'll just make a brief couple of comments as per: loved the tin signs (my fave the Space Invader one), the bargain handheld games you picked up - £6 in total? My, what a bargain you Glaswegians drive - you put Yaarkshire folks to shame and that trio of Atari tapes take me reet back, Al - used to lurve playing Clumsy Colin Action Biker (but by god how hard was that game?) and also that Mastertronic fruit machine Vegas Jackpot title there was so bloody addictive - really good features for a pocket money priced game and finally... never played One Man and his Droid but now you have it on both Atari and C16 formats, you will have to do a game comparison review, Al.
Oh, I;ve another "and finally" - I thought you were obsessed and pined for trips to the EAST YORKSHIRE coast - what's all this north yorks business - I mean Scarboro just scrapes in but next you'll be doing trips to Redcar and bleedin Smoggyville aka Boro!! Only joshing, me ol muckah - it's always great to greet you in Yaarkshire, whichever point on the compass, and the God's Own County Yorkshire tourist board have agreed to stick you and your retro booty smiles for miles on their 2025 front cover, Al.

I have around 35 games already as I used to use Sonia’s Wii as it was the early version with the GameCube connections . I always wanted a proper GameCube though, using a RGB SCART and my plasma TV set to 4:3 takes me back. The attract screen from Rogue Leader was amazing.Seeing it running in Curry’s I knew I had to get one back then.
I have a lot of the good ones like Zelda, Luigi’s Mansion, F-Zero GX, and some of the Resident Evil games.

 

I have about 20 real games for my Gamecube, I love the Mario's, Zelda's and Metroid series, anything from them I own.Even got an Action Replay for it so I could import Metroid Prime and Resident evil. Great little machine..Well done Richie..
