I'd never heard of this one. S.A.M., yes, as well as Cheep Talk from Compute! I think it was? And a couple others. Not this one, though.
_________ That may have been the same chip used for Cheep Talk, too. Any idea why it would have SIO? The voice synthesizer options I'm aware of either use the joystick ports or software. --Tim
No idea re the SIO unless for some reason it was attached to the SIO and had one for a pass through? As for Cheap talk, probably, it was a standard allophones based chip, the AL2 version was the one we sold, it was either 8.99 or 16.99 UK back in the 80's (can't remember which one it was) so cheap enough to wack in a box with some added stuff. I can only go by what we as Maplin sold as a guide, Farnell or RS may have had many other speech chips. Remember I'm not really an electronics person, the reason I can quote about the chip is that I was able to quote 99% our catalogue from memory and remember all the stock codes, when it came to helping with a circuit I had to get someone else
Very good indeed, Tim and Mac. It's very reminiscent of the thing I have for the Oric which I'm sure is Maplin sourced. I created a thread on A.S. but of course it's all gone now but it'd be great to see someone have a go at making one of these for the Atari classic - who's up for this? I'd buy one - just for the hell of it! Ah, here we go - still have a few bits from my A.S. days saved on my Desktop: ABOVE: Paul might recognise some of these components?
I think Paul will definatly remember the bit I've highlighted ... Hell he may even recall the stock code!!! I do recall I had something similar attached to a spectrum.

Yes, was just about to tell Andy, it was LW16 I think, we did them for the Atari, the Spectrum, Oric and one other that I can't remember. Some parts of the catalogue I remember better, Heathkit I don't remember a single item..
