    Hi mainly directed at @M.D.Baker
Are there any service mods to a 1050 logic board that involves cutting a trace to C67 from CR15/16?

Apart from Matt, your best person would be Nezgar on Atari Age, he's the 1050 expert. As I have left Atari Age I would have asked him directly on there but I don't want people to think I'm either back or needy for the forum. The people were lovely but I don't miss the Atari side and trying not to get back to it.

Hi Richie, nope, it's more like full retro burnout. I can't really enjoy what stuff I have because of pain, I really try, but I get in to agony every time. Now this has been happened more frequently, and it just makes all my gear a source of pain. Add to that, a general downturn in my mood due to neighbours, and it's just made the whole retro thing tiring for me.

So with all this I sat down and looked at what I'm actually playing and got rid of all the emulated stuff that I'd not touched in years, and trust me, it was a lot. Now I'm looking at my real gear and deciding on its fate, I can't see me getting rid of my real Atari or C64, I still like them for the memories but that notion may change. With my other real gear I'll almost certainly down size. The only handling it gets from me is when I dust and clean it.

I could also do with some money, but I doubt I'd get much for the stuff I have bar the 1200XL, but as that was a gift it would feel awkward..

I’m sorry you aren’t doing so well and it’s killed off your enjoyment and enthusiasm. Definitely keep your 800XL and 64 as prices these days would make it difficult to get another. The 1200XL is a tricky one, I don’t know who gave you it.
If you decide to offload any peripherals down the road keep me in the loop.

The 1200 was sent over from the US by Bob1200XL on AtariAge, another mate who lives near me converted it to PAL and popped in a U1MB board that he had spare.

It's not just the retro stuff, watching films is now hard as I'm in crippling pain quite soon. I would not mind, but when I sold off some gear last year I got the missing films I need from the Marvel ongoing set, almost all still shrink wrapped (bar the 2nd hand ones) still as the pain stuffs it for me.

Actually deleting all the other emulated systems I don't touch was good for me, cheered me up as I'd been thinking of doing it for ages. Not soo fun about the systems I do like, want to play, try to play and wham, pain...

Still, I'm walking, talking and driving, happy for all that..So not bad off, wish a hit team would take out my upstairs neighbours, spent all day screaming at each other, talking of getting a divorce because he has been playing away (again), now it's all happy families bar the screaming and stamping brat they have (3 now and one about to hatch) Joy oh joy...

Wish we could get an RAF Apache strike in on that upstairs flat, mate.

We'd give you a heads up of course 5mins before so you guys could get hid behind the sofa but one hellfire from these guys and those feckers would be toast:

Cheers Andy etc, as she is about to drop another 'thing' I can only hope that they are doing the classic house grab scenario, have loads of unwanted children to get a free house. Can't wait till September where the boy must be in school all day, at the mo it's 3 hours, and then he comes back and wreaks havoc. They really are animals, the hyena of the people world, nasty trash that just lives off hate..

It's almost fun to see he's screwing her over rotten...

Keep praying that they need somewhere bigger to store these beasts they keep popping, Paul, and you end up with a lovely quiet OAP moving in who's no bother and respects other people's peace n quiet.

    We can but hope!

I hope, but I have no faith in it, today has been quieter because she won't let her cheating husband out of her sight and I gave them a solid 2hrs of music at 2am, just to show them what it's like to disturb people.Despite the quieter time, I'm pretty down at the mo, probably will step away from here for a little. Nothing to do with you guys (top blokes all), all about my mood and how it affects me. I tend to get agitated very easily when down and the last thing I want to do is take my anger out on anyone here if I misconstrue something silly. Mental illness is a bugger and all the pressure I'm under from various things really screws with my head.

    I'll see how it unwinds..

Take care, Paul and have a wee break.

We're all here for you when you feel better and fancy "coming up for air".

I'm fed up with aches and pains and Bev's pished off with hot flushes so I think it's the season / time just after Chrimbo, before spring has properly sprung, when a lot of us get miffed, fed up and are crying out for sunshine in our lives and need to be feeling all round better about ourselves and situations.

    Go steady, my mate.

My best to you and Bev.

My thing has been building up lately, like you guys and probably a million others, I just feel like I'm in a room that I can't get out of and everyone just keeps taking potshots at me.

I'll see what to do, if I go then I'll be back at some point....

To round off the 1050 repair I had to recap and replace the diodes, repair damaged traces and finally traced the fault to the chip U2 which was why the Stepper Motor wasn’t working properly. I have since replaced U2 on the board with a 75478 and it’s working fine now so all in I ended up with a decent boxed 1050.
Anyone ever need a 1050 fixed in future I’m up for it.

    Well done, Richie.

You're one helluva Mr Fixit - congrats, mate.

I have an interesting fix if you fancy it... one of these:

    upload_2023-3-3_18-27-10.jpeg

Prob with it is this (a friend in Hull had a quick look)

The disco light LED is fine… the LED comes on briefly on self test, however is being switched off by the controller, there is no circuit diagram for it. It is made in China and distributed by a firm in Wales.

I’m convinced that it’s ok…. But the firmware is corrupt, I have no way of reprogramming it...

Any use sending it up, Richie?!

    Have a good weekend, guys.

In what way does it not work Andy?

You said the disco led is fine?

If said firmware is corrupt then being Chinese dodgy old gear there will be no reflashable firmware available (to Joe Public)and probably some cacky lead that needs to be made. Chances are that it's just poorly made.

PS, the lads expect better bar entertainment lighting that this!!

    LOL!

    I reckon yer right, Paul.

The light comes on very briefly when you 1st switch it on and then it goes off and doesn't come back on, Paul, so as a disco light.... it's pretty limited!

It swivels, tilts and pans like a good un to the music but it goes all shy on you with its bulb which remains... off!

I'll either bin it or use it as a crow scarer :)

Sounds like a cap losing it, BUT on those cheap circuit boards it could be anything..Richie, you up for the challenge??? :)

    Thanks very much, Richie.

I'll send it up to you back end of next week as it's still sat at my mate's in E Hull.

Cheers and don't mention today's score at the SOL... bad, bad, bad day at the office :)

Aye, Paul, we didn't see it coming. The hostile reception that the crowd gave the returning Alex Neil would appear to have backfired in that his team seemed to be determined to stuff the home abuse down their throats! He certainly had the last laugh and 43,000 (in the main) went home shell-shocked and thoroughly pished orf! :) Mind, Stoke had an excellent away day so at least the Potters celebrated with their best china, me old China!

As you know, I don't really follow footy these days, I was the football mad kid just like almost every other child, a new leather football was a present from the gods to me, didn't want to get an inch of it dirty, yet wanted to blast it in to the top corner :)

A combo of a new ball and a new set of Adidas Kick trainers was the best Xmas gift ever...

These days, not kicked a ball in years, partly because it hurts and mostly because my knee's / balance is so bad I tend to fall over doing the most simple stuff, booting a ball is way too technical these days :)

I do miss it all, I was always a kid running, jumping, climbing and generally not keeping still type of child.

Yep, Paul. A pair of Adidas Kick, a new United strip and a tango world cup football and basically you'd be out playing with yer mates having a kickaround pretending you were Bryan Robson, Kenny Dalglish, Ian Rush or climbing trees, building dens, exploring old warehouses etc until the cows came home/yer mam shouted for you to come in... six weeks summer hols lasted forever and the sun shone and shone so ice pops, penny sweets like Mojos, rhubarb and custard and cola bottles lasted all day too and then yer mate's mam might have you round for a soda stream too if you were in with the in crowd... bloody great days, lads, and these days all we've got to show for it is aching joints, arthritis and a few old polaroids of our glory days as we gaze back all misty eyed thinking... wouldn't it be lovely just to be able to do it one more time...

I couldn't tell you the last time I saw a group of kids out "larking".

They just do not do it anymore.

Nope, too busy either indoors on a console or out up to no good. A group of young lads used to turn up on the next field and give footy coaching to the local kids, lasted 2 weeks, no one was turning up, it totally stopped after 6 weeks when these poor lads just gave up.

Blimey, future prime minister on the far left..You pick..

And yeah, would be lovely to have another go at back then...
