Just thought you MIGHT be interested, fellas??!!

As a team that spends all our time playing, writing, and talking about retro games, we know the value of a great retro game store. They’re the lifeblood of the retro gaming scene; seeing consoles and games on the internet is one thing, but having the chance to actually hold boxed games, to play arcade cabinets, to discover consoles that they never knew existed and see them actually playing on CRT TVs – that’s the kind of experience which really makes a difference and leaves customers wanting more.

We love spending time in retro game shops, which is why the team has made it our mission to traverse the UK to discover the best stores dedicated to retro media, the hidden hoards of gaming brilliance and little-known shops that are championing the N64, the Atari 2600, the PS1, the Colecovision, and all the other home and handheld consoles which have impacted the retro gaming scene across the globe.

This mission is so important to us that we’ve started our very own series on YouTube, ‘The Retroad Show‘. We’re visiting our favourite stores and discovering new ones along the way to highlight the hard work of business owners all over the country, collectors who go the extra mile to bring the community new and exciting stock which keeps our spirits light and our wallets lighter.

We’ll be updating this list regularly with more content and videos as our travels to every corner of the United Kingdom ensue, but for now, here are five of the best retro game shops in the UK for you to add to your bucket list of places to visit!

OK... off you go now, guys, to the actual page link and seek out the best five according to RETRO DODO! Will Al's mate's Glasgow shop be in here? I'm thinking it could be... :) Oh, and don't forget to FEEDBACK! Cheers and enjoy...

Hmmm, bit like the police at our local nick when all the toilets were stolen earlier today, Paul...

It's early doors in the investigation, but so far we have nothing to go on... bo-bum!

I'll look further into this crime, pal!! :)

Forgotten Worlds made it to Number One in the list of course :)

I've visited many a retro games store here and in America and without any bias can say that Forgotten Worlds has the biggest range of any. I have visited Sore Thumbs in York a few times as well and it always seems to small and you get a feeling that it might be a bit cliquey and look down on casual gamers.

The only negative I would say about the Forgotten Worlds video is that it misses out a lot of the computers and 8 bit games that Alan has in-store.

    Nicely compared and contrasted, Al.
Aye, from what you tell us, Forgotten Worlds takes some beating - but even it could improve by stocking more 1980s 8bit classic micros, peripherals and software, yeah?
Maybe the gaffer there isn't such a strong fan of this era, would you say, and that he's a total collector of everything, just about, since??
Probably an age thing - is he relatively young compared to fossils such as I?!?
I'm now that old, Age Concern have given up on me and Paul's asked the British Museum to carbon date me and me Atmos...

Alan is just a year or two younger than me and is a fan of the 8 bit era although it tends to sell slower in store than the consoles. At the moment he has some Spectrums, BBC B, couple of C64's, Vic 20, Commodore 16, a few MSX's, 600XL, 800XL, ST's and Amiga's. Then there is stuff like a boxed Mattel Aquarius or the Philips G7000.
He also has a really big range of cassettes and floppies for Speccy, C64, Amstrad, Atari, Amiga, ST, etc.
Oh, and he prefers the ST to the Amiga lol.

Hats off to Alan, Al. He clearly does support that era of 8bit machine that I prefer. I'd help him get a lot more and boost his stock levels, mate!
