Hi guys. Just a quick wee post really to see if there is any lurve for this system on Atari Owner forum and if any of you gadgers own one, have had one, want one, can advise on getting one etc etc. I'm doing nowt more than dipping my toe following that Retro Nerd vid clip I posted on the shoutbox t'other neet, over at: You know how it is... you watch it, start to appreciate it (knew nowt about it before, other than I think our old mate Robofruit has one?) and then now start to wonder about having it?! (bit like sex really - for those of us who can remember what this is - do remind me if you can)... Any road, taking things firmly in hand, you know, you start to look out there on certain sales sites and there's this one going for just about as cheap as I can find: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/386377000659717/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post&tracking=browse_serp:9ee45ce6-7b71-4ddf-a3ed-a9e2f92360d5 Clearly not in the best of cosmetic conditions - hence the asking price - still a decent £260. Then you get on to the creme de la creme examples... They're wanting £800 for this little vectorised collection... BUT NO ACTUAL MACHINE!!! Never mind... I can always dream. As the vid mentioned, this little system really threatened to bring an AUTHENTIC arcade feel to our homes and bedrooms with its very real arcade experience in terms of speed, accuracy and basically the exact same exciting vector-graphics game - but sales were hamstrung by a lack of colour and the video games crash in the US just as it was released... such a shame. Anyway, as ever, comments please, Atarians... where do you stand on this machine - all those who say AYE?
£260 is a very good price. The joysticks are susceptible to failure so something to watch out for. I've always admired the Vectrex but think it would end up as a display piece more. Get yourself to a show at some point Andy and have a few games on one
Good calls, both. Cheers - as Al suggests, I'll have a play with one and then see how I feel about spending at least £300 to actually own such a rarified vectorised beast... Come in, Robofruit, tell us ALL ABOUT IT, AL and I wonder if Rich has ever had one/played with one?
I've played on it a few times and it is a very unique system but I know I'd tire of the limited library and graphics style quite quickly. The controller isn't the greatest either, plays better with a megadrive pad conversion done. On the other hand, the version of Pole Position for it is one of my favourites. A multicart is a must have but I think they may be quite hard to come by now. Also if you are just playing rom dumps then you miss out on the lovely colour overlays that come with most boxed games.
Be much better with an Amstrad 464 and Dragon 32 combo lol Anyway, stop looking at other consoles when you haven't even opened the Gamestation Pro yet!
Cheers Al. Further good points well made. You always manage to ground me and bring all my ridiculous pie in the sky extreme arcade ambitions back down to earth and reality! Feck it - the system's a heap o'shite! If it weren;t for you then I'd be zillions in debt - more so than Man United... and don;t mention the Arse score!! Dress rehearsal for our cup exit toneet's match.
Yep, Al nailed the issues around the Vectrex. I sooooo wanted one BITD, but there was always sommit that caught my eye more. Now, they are just way too pricey. With the emulation being very good, I know which I chose
