Hi guys. Our mate and Atari Owner member Al "Robofruit" Robinson hasn;t been on for a while as family, caring and work commitments have kept him busy full time elsewhere but he's just sent me a link to his new arcade creation and I think it's well worth sharing with you guys as he's pretty modest is ol Al. Whaddya think, fellas - please feedback. Interestingly, Al Nysavant in particular - I'm looking at ye - Robofruit has built in a Virtual Pinball too - now that would be worth playing just on its own, yeah, mate? Links ovver ere - head on over and lerrus know your thoughts on these things: https://www.flickr.com/photos/140653708@N06/sets/72177720323811664/
Very nice build. Personally not a fan of cocktail cabinet machines but I like the Pac Man livery on this one
I'm with Al re the cocktail cabs, never been a fan. I can't tell 100% from the pic, but it looks like it's a LCD/LED screen, on old arcade machines, I'd prefer a CRT. When it comes to pinball games, it really needs a CRT or a high spec LED. Nitpicking aside, looks like a great little project by Robofruit, he certainly has put a lot of work into it, so well done that man. Looks the part for sure..
There used to be a Donkey Kong table top arcade game in our old local "The Highland Laddie" I would be sat there with my pint of Camerons Ruby and Sonia with her 1/2 a Guinness. Happy days.
We had a Space Invaders cocktail in the pub I played Pool for, never played it once, used it only to rest my pint of Coca Cola on, on a very rare day I'd have a half of a thing very like Guinness, think it started with an M. A little bit of a sweet taste, but only after I'd finished my games Wonky cue vision not much use And like you, happy days..
These machines were legendary and will bring back so many memories for many. For me it was Withernsea Youth club on a Friday dinner disco at school and being mesmerised by the slowly advancing down the screen invaders (nice use of strips of coloured acetate) and the UFO which would patrol the top line which you could shoot for bonus points. The sound too used to get you in the pit of your stomach... they were never gonna stop and you just had to shoot as many as you could before your inevitable doom, with your can of cola and devonshire split rotating for yer attentions/spare hand. Plus it made a change from games of ping pong! Keep those memories coming, guys.
If I had spare change, I'd nip up to the tiny arcade at Dalston junction, being the early years, they only had Space Invaders, Asteroids, Galaxian and some weird clone game that was based on Galaga(ish). I wasn't the best player in the world, but I knew the Space Invader counting trick to always get 300 points from the UFO, and also the trick on Asteroids of keeping one small asteroid alive and picking off the smaller UFO. The result was that my initials JPI were always the block of top scores on those two. Sadly, the owner turned the machines off at night, so my scores were removed... No hi-score fame for me Well, only for as few hours.. Then if I had any 10p's left, I'd have a bash at the pinball machine in the Turkish run chippy or if there was people in there, I'd put my 10 or 20p down on the pool table and spend as long as people challenged me. If any of the kids taking me on were black, the owners would start calling them names in Turkish, my Turkish mate Ilker had taught me a few of the words so I knew what was going on. Me, I didn't care who I played, as long as you treated me ok I was happy as larry, but it became a thing that if I walked in then the pool games would end and the lads would leave. It was the one game I could play very well. Very fun times...
