LOL! As the lads were saying earlier on the Whatsappdoc newsgroup All the Zits, I mean Bits, it's about time we stuck a few new posts on Atari Owner. On the retro couch tonight we have an 8bit micro trio lined up and all 3 (looking right to left) really show the development of the Sinclair brand as it evolved and improved and then became Amstrad owned and really looked like a "proper" micro! Can someone send me a ZX80 and a QL to help complete the family group (look, I haven't forgotten the toast rack Speccy, and the other Plus 2 (2a and 2b?!)...and the Plus 3 or the Z88 but bugger them!) ....WITHOUT breaking the bank? I thought not Anyone else got any lurve for Sinclairs wise (or otherwise) monkeys? And finally, anyone who needs a "refresh" on what Sir Clive brought us, here we go - he fuelled our generation don't you know?!
Never had a Speccy growing up Andy. Got the recreated TheSpectrum last year though and I really enjoy the little rubber keyed wonder. Love 3D Deathcase and 180 Darts on it. Still amazing the amount of games that get released for it nowadays, and we are talking some quality titles. As for all the variants, the OG 48k is still the best in my book. Although the +3 was a neat looknig little machine. Always wanted to try a QL but never had the chance. Still woudn't mind messing about with one if the opportunity ever arose. I've got a couple of Sinclair bits on display. Will try and take a picutre.
That'd be great, Al, to see what has made it to your impressive micro HALL OF FAME! It would be really good if we can tempt Rich and possibly Graham, Andy Vulcanman & Alex Drito back on to here and how about new members like our Bill - can he sign up or does he have to apply to Tim 1st? It all seems really close-door policy unless I've misunderstood? We should be getting 10-20 new members a week if the visitor figs are to be believed (nearly 20K some days!!)
So that isnt a real rubber keyed 48K original Speccy, AL? It certainly LOOKS like one. Yeah, those titles you mentioned are great but also find time if you can for: PSSST, Tranz Am and Jet Pac. Also Imagine's ARCADIA is a great multi-level shooter, mate.
Those visitors are mostly bots so really give a false impression. You can click on the big banner to try and sign up from the main page but don't know if that works. I'll drop Tim an email and ask about it.
That Speccy in the picture is actually another 'clone' It was basically a bluetooth keyboard in a spectrum case. Brought out years ago by Elite of all companies! You can buy new membranes, keyboards, cases to build your own Speccy now. In all the colours of the rainbow (or Spectrum).
I really like "Uncle Clive's" industrial design on some of the products. Trying to find a decent cheap Sinclair calculator at the moment, and could easily be tempted by a cheap ZX80 or ZX81 to add to my display. One other Sinclair product I would like to test out is the C5. Finally sat in one at the Retro Collective a couple of months ago and would love to try out a ride in one.
Fraid you won't get a cheap ZX80, AL, those two words just don't go together. You might get an '81 for sub £25 if it's unboxed or non-working like. As for a ride in a C5 - ask Bill West on the All the Bits forum what it's like to ride in a C5. If he's forgotten, it was over 40 years ago, just mention WIGFALLS to him!
