Never heard of Return of the Fungi but will need to take a look. Diamonds by Shaun Southern was a big hit in our house growing up so it might be fun to revisit Digger Dan again....
My current top 5 A8 off the top of my head and in no particular order
1. Arkanoid
2. Death Race
3. Diamonds
4. Bosconian
5. Pole PositionAndy Barr likes this. -

Return of Fungi was announced on Atari Age by Shaun himself, I loved his two previous games so it was nice to see the trilogy finished.

Apologies folks, I got my game titles mixed up. I meant Deathchase not Death Race.
I do remember Death Race as well though, pretty sure I had the Atlantis release of it and it was a fun little game.
Andy, Diamonds is well worth a go. It's a bit like Dig Dug. Thinking about it today made me remember how much I enjoyed the music and sound effects.
... and of course I meant Simon Hunt as the author of Diamonds. Was getting him mixed up with Shaun Souther of Lotus racing trilogy fame. Doh!Andy Barr likes this. -

This thread really got me thinking. My mum and dad both enjoyed playing Missile Command and Diamonds on my 800XL. Sometimes well into the night after I went into bed. My mum in particular really was a bit of a gamer in her day, she was well into playing both Tetris on the original Gameboy and then Columns on the GameGear years later. Didn't think about it much at the time but she would have been about the age I am now!

Some great memories flooding back there, Al - and recommendations made.
I will indeed dip into English Software's Diamonds as I don't think I've ever played it and those returning fungi and... Deathchase!
Cheers, Al.nysavant likes this. -

Nice one, Al.
Everyone's fave Atari selections always throw up something to make us think - I'd forgotten how good that is OR what the hell is that title and it's this variety and wonder that also helps to keep up our shared fascination with our hobby.
So, I need to check out Diamonds, I can totally relate with Bosconian in there (also a fave of Matt's?) and is the Death Race you refer to, this budget label Death Race, fella:
??
Once more, our new mate Pete covers it in one of his A-Z of Atari 8bit titles.
Take it away, pole position, off the starting grid, fella - but stick the kettle on first as the tape loading is apparently SEVENTEEN minutes!
Ah, the good ol days brought back to us in an instant thanks to Al, five faves list and the ease of instant reviews on You Pube.
