One down side of it, the amount of bloody texts and emails and online form filling to do...Thankfully we lead a sedate life with no real outside contact that isn't shielded by perspex so our contacts were Tesco who are enclosed..
Oh well, back to looking after Cindy..

by nysavantHey!!
Sorry to hear you tested positive mate. As Andy says, hopefully won't lead to any worsening of symptoms. Just take it easy and if upstairs start to annoy you just go up and offer to shake them by the hand.....Andy Barr likes this. -

Very kind offer but I've a little of a sore throat which I've had for a couple of weeks, don't want to inflame it..Just in case...
Hoping for an Xmas one tho..
Thank you all...Andy Barr likes this. -

Small update, Serena now showing symptoms but that is hardly a stunning surprise as everyone at the Uni (bar her) are trying to collect as many STD's as possible so good old COVID isn't a worry. Thankfully at her age she should just burn through it. She's doing the right thing, isolating.
Update 2: C64 PSU finally arrives...I'm back in the game..Andy Barr likes this. -

Will do Andy....I was expecting Serena to catch it in all honesty, the animals she lives with don't clean up the kitchen, attend every party going and do drugs. I'd imagine the kitchen alone has caught covid on its own from them..
Total disregard of their own safety let alone others..Thankfully her head is screwed on, she lets them do their nonsense and she keeps safe as she can..Andy Barr likes this. -

Hope all three of you make a swift recovery Paul. Serena sounds like a sensible girl who won't take any chances.

I'll have a look in the old power department, mate.
It will probably be the weekend though before completing my search as the 8BitBaz cave under the stairs is now in 10-15 boxes of heaped stuff up in the attic.
Hang on in there, fella and hopefully I'll have something powering through to you in December as a wee stocking-filler shaping up this end... NO, NOT OUR BEV!! -
by Vyper68
If you get stuck I can make you a PSU lead. All you would need is a modern 5v centre positive power supply, you can get a 2A one for around £8. The lead I would make would just plug into the DC jack of the PSU and go into the DIN socket of the Atari.
I use one myself and it works fine, it’s a 4A one which is overkill for the Atari but I also use it for running Ammy’s with interfaces plugged in. -
by Andy Barr
Will update both you chaps later - I think I have such a modern switching PSU which I could send to you Richie, to adapt and send to Paul - we'd just need a spare DIN on the end... doubt I'd have that bit.
-
by Andy Barr
I once did a walkthrough thread on the old Atari Sector on how to make a new Atari 8bit replacement PSU from a modern 5v switching PSU but of course all that's gone to the great recycle bin in the sky but there must be a wee clip on You Tube or some such website... just a tick - it really is a doddle, Paul as I have next to no electronics know how and I managed it... hang on a tick...
-
by Andy Barr
Paul - just located all the parts you need - just attach the DIN to the 5v switching supply correctly and you're away, fella:

Paul,
Your parcel is good to go tomorrow, fella.
Can I just double-check if you need the Atari DIN part of an old lead to go with the new PSU I'm sending, as I recall you saying:
" I have the din lead from an old ingot"
so shall I keep my spare or do you need it including with the more modern 5V switching PSU?
No worries if you do - just holler!
Brr, parky out toneet, fellas. Just come across a party of penguins waddling along out and about in their jumpers, fur coats, scarves & gloves - stay toasty, I said. -

Hi, Paul.
Parcel away and now heading your way so keep an eye out next week for a Baz pre-Xmas goodies delivery.
Yeah, we should do another retro video conference style thingymajig with as many assorted festive or festering Atarian members as can be mustered.
They were quite enjoyable back in April-May and then they seemed to fizzle out when folks were busy on Sundays with other things but let's try rebooting that media method and by all means, I'm talking to the Atari anarchists amongst you, break out the sherry-filled mince pies and chocolate liqueurs beforehand to really liven things up a tad!
You guys should also board-up your letterboxes in the next week or two n'all or else suffer the same fate as Mac with his incoming 8bitBaz paltry parcel.
You have been warned!

LOL!
Trust Mac to be ahead of the game.
You got it sorted there alright, me old mate.
My top tip is to pour the whole lot into a pint glass and stir well as you add a hot lager to the mix a la:
Here's one Paul prepared earlier:

You're welcome,mate.
No, there are 2 parcels arrived here today but both for Bev (who's still at work at the hossie - waiting for her pick-up text - I wouldn't mind but she went in at 5.30 this morning...)
No worries, Paul - Andy Vulcanman sent me a parcel from just down the road in Lincoln a few weeks back and it's only just arrived - took 2 weeks to get here having travelled an amazing.... mere 48miles!! ;-) -

PS. Some top tips here for looking good if you're going to be doing a bit of Zooming, Teams or Google Meeting etc - after all, you don't want to alarm your pals when that camera starts rolling...

Blimey, that is a lot of retro, my wardrobe is mostly leads, hard drives etc etc. What I did have retro I passed on or did swaps with, down to a few joysticks, 2 disk drives, an A500, a manky 130XE and a C64.
I obviously still have my 800XL with U1mb in and my C64 with their respective cart / loading devices...Those will stay..
Console wise I'm undecided, things like the Xbox are not worth a lot and giving them away to Ebay just seems daft, I'll hold on to most of it I guess.
OT: Still stunned that Top Hop etc and Debenhams are bust, in the 90s me and Cindy would be down in Oxford street on a Thurs having a look around, not so much from Debenhams as they were just snobbish. When I last drove through Camberwell to drop my daughter off it just looked like the apocalypse had just happened, shop after shop boarded up or just left to rot...No just bouncing back from this and worse still, 'this' isn't finished getting worse...
I just hope I'm wrong.. -
by Andy Barr
You've still got some classy retro items left so as long as you have something to whet your whistle and tickle your fancy, then all is not lost, mate.
I'm afraid, like you, I think the game is up and all is lost for the big stores/names on our high streets now and god only knows what will be left... pizza/kebab and charity shops at best at this rate.
Seems like our governments and COVID are doing a better demolition job than even bombs and grenades, guys...

Hehe, the cat's currently painting the kitchen door - I knew that tail would come in handy.
Hope Serena's shampoo lasts out and that we do have some stores that survive into New Year but I won't hold my breath - they're just about all knackered these days and we'll only see them in musuems at this rate (together with Orics and pubs).
Good luck with your further retro sales - Amigas always seem to have a ready market so even if it is a little discoloured, hopefully you'll still get a decent price for your A500 - especially when it gets bundled with all those extra add-on goodies you mention.
I think I'll always keep my A500... together with the 800XL and Oric Atmos, they'd be my personal fave top 3 micros of all time as they're all so rich in great times memories for me (the Beeb just gets squeezed out and the ZX81, as Matt's mentioned, comes in a late fourth with its lack of anything to get excited about!).
LOL!
What are you PERSONAL TOP THREE FAVE MICROS, folks?? And why??? -
by Andy Barr
So right, fellas.
I mean, we've all begged to differ but that was the beauty of back then... so much choice it was truly the golden generation of the home micro and like Paul said, they helped us make so many friendships and so many memories.
We loved playing the games, hacking the code, swapping the tapes and disks and meeting up and just doing what teenagers and guys in their early 20s do - taking life like it's one happy, carefree adventure and/or the adrenaline rush of an arcade blast, getting drunk with mates and chasing the girls and hoping for an "Outrun" happy ending...

Mind, if you were an Oric outcast like yours truly, then Morrissey and Leonard Cohen were your best mates in your back street bedsit in the seaside town they forgot to close down, cos none of the Commode and Speccy owners would be seen even pixellated with you!
Talk about awful attribute clashes!
LOL.
Great micros mentioned, lads.
Keep em coming. -
by Andy Barr
Fingers (and joystick leads) crossed that it's just a dose of common cold, Paul.
As you say, it's the very last thing you guys need with Serena due home for Christmas shortly.
Yeah, the memories keep flooding back.
Here are my fave games on my fave micros and why...
Amiga A500 and Kick Off 2 -
![[IMG]](https://t.gamesnostalgia.com/screenshots/k/i/kick-off-2/main_small.jpg)
The beautiful game made beautiful on your micro - passing & shooting & tackling controls, graphics, atmosphere, playability, competitiveness with mates round and you shouting and bawling at both the screen and each other - Italia 90 and this game will always live on in my memory, fellas.
Atari 800XL and Bounty Bob Strikes Back -
So, so, so many happy nights playing this either round at Ady and Pob's (me 1st girlfriend) or at ours with Kiddy, Westy and Phil round. All taking turns, all trying to past the fiendish levels and platform problems and get your name on the amazing high score table with those amazing birds picking up the letters/digits - one word: BRILLIANT!
Oric Atmos and Spooky Mansion
![[IMG]](https://www.video-games-museum.com/en/screenshots/Oric/3/32195-ingame-Spooky-Mansion.jpg)
Me, Scuff and Johnny H used to play this for hours and hours and were finally convinced that the game and cassette inlay had been written by Hans Christian Anderson. The reason? It was impossible to get past the 1st screen so all the others were simply fairy tales and didn't exist! It didn't stop us trying though...time and time again. If you compare though this game with the two above, hell, it's shabby but it was still so funny trying to crack it and then being killed over and over and over again but larking it round at Scuff and Johnny's was just a wheeze as we'd all hang out and do a bit of mischief on an evening as teenagers kicking around town with nowt better to do than... try and get through to the mythical screens 2/3/4 of Spooky Mansion!
Keep coming with your very fave top 3 micros and games that will always live with you on that platform, because... -
by Andy Barr
Mate,
We've got everything crossed (including the cats' eyes) that you get a big fat negative when those test results come through.
We've just opened yours and Richie's cards and they're both gReat so thanks very much for those - our 1st cards of the year and we've a fire going (another Sinclair C5 sat on the top) to keep that winter drizzle and chill out of our bones.
Oh, don't we miss our yesteryears and yesterdays but as you say, there are some amazing improvements in the way that stuff does sometimes match our expectations and online orders arrive bloody swiftly from the comfort of our own armchairs but you can't beat a good shufty through stuff like records, tapes, games, mags and books etc.
Yep, we miss those halcyon high street 80s days, shopping and checking out the new tech etc, like this:
and just hope that next year, some stores will bounce back so we don't lose these pleasures forever. -

Well I've been classed as positive yet I feel totally fine, this is a joke, I can only class it as a knock on from Cindy who has yet to be classed.
I'm genuinely sat here feeling 100% ok, no symptoms at all I'd happily admit if there was and issue..Honestly, I feel ok I look ok and I feel like a normal person.
If its Cindy I'll make sure she's 1000000000% better and keep away from people but I've sprayed parcels I've send t out with anti bac spray..
Sorry folks, please spray anything sent, I did it already but I want you to be sure...
My xmas looks in tatters...Fuck...
And just in time for my idiots upstairs to start banging the floors...Bad times... -
by Andy Barr
Oh balls.... terribly sorry to hear, Paul.
Look after you and yours, get some food deliveries booked-in and dig-in for 14 days, pal.
Hopefully, you'll be reet again before the 25th, mate.
