Richie, if you want the 800XL go ahead and seal the deal with Andy mate. You've done both us enough favours over the years![]()

Hey, you two - stobbit fighting over me goods - I'll saw the bugger in half, how does that suit the pair of yez? I've never heard owt like it. I come in, after a hard day's issuing of parking tickets to slow-moving Spectrums and dodgy Dragons then battling me way oop to Brid to see me mam and get her some chish n fips on't seafront (on 20mph roads due to gritters resurfacing yon carriageway, christ on a bike, it took me forever), and I gets back to the funky forum at some daft o'clock hour of the clock to find you fellas confabulating over who should have the awesome article... me to you, no you to me! The Chuckle Brothers have got nowt on Al and Richie

Hey, actually, that's damn decent of Al to pass the baton to Richie - I like his style and I'm sure we can get you a wee red light from some shady area of town the next time one of us is passing, Al... ahem, any road, over to you, Richie.
Pay me when you are able to in the next month/whatever and I'll get this sex machine (don't ever say I over-egg or exaggerate my sales!) off to Richie tomorrow as I'm WFH.
Reet - get some kip, you retro maniacs.
I'm glad we got that sorted

Andy, how could you not be aware you had this beauty in the house? I'm shocked and ashamed for you at the same time.
Now, I've already got two 800XL's but ironically the power LED doesn't light on either of them. But maybe I could sell one of those and buy yours with the working LED (and the classic that is Miner 2049er). If nobody else bites (bytes?) on this in the next couple of days Andy then I think I might be in position to buy within the next week

Al - I have an upgraded 800XL which I use quite often and used to play Commando on for our comp not so long back so that's my working goto machine and it's out all the time... I didn't realise I still had a "spare", mate - I thought I had sold my spares years back "trimming" back the herd!
OK, I was about to advertise this elsewhere as of tomorrow night but I'll hold my hosses for a week.
Let me know how you get on with parting with one of yours and then we'll get our heads together next weekend.
You currently have 1st refusal, mate.
Cheers - it's a great little machine and has had virtually zero use.nysavant likes this. -

Would you be okay with me using Paypal? Would send as friends and family so you don't get charged extra on it.

Thanks but you were first Allen so go ahead. Forum etiquette and all that. I would have had to wait until pay day in a week and a bit anyway.

Honestly Richie, I already for two 800XL's and only wanted this one as it had a working power LED so happy for you to step in if you like and if Andy is happy with the deal.
Like I say, you've been a bloody good help to both us in the past, especially fixing Andy's various broken bits lolAndy Barr likes this. -

So I suppose you let the Oric's off any parking fines then? I'm ruddy sick of all these Tangerine ticket dodgers. It's one rule for them and another rule for the rest of us 8-bitters!

Ahem, I couldn't possibly comment on individual cases of so-called harassment of feebler micros to the beautiful Oric range of world-beating tape loading error machines, but one Speccy owner sent this in as his appeal (it's gone in the rejects bin)

Thanks guys. I have wanted a 800XL for a while so it's nice to get one. I have some Red LED's that should work in a XL do you want it to repair it yourself or do you want me to do it when you drive by again?

Lovely stuff, everyone gets a result and Richie gets his hands on an 800XL. I'm probably biased as it was my first proper computer but it's my favourite Atari. The 800 is iconic looking, but the 800XL is futuristic and practical

Might take you up on the offer of the LED if I'm passing sometime mate, thanks.
What other Atari 8-bitters have you had/got Richie?Andy Barr likes this. -

Hi Richie,
Things were a bit mad today (lurds of Tandys got ticketed and a C5 was arrested for pretending to be a vehicle... you couldn't mek it up!), so I got only so far boxing and packing your 800XL up. I would next prefer to place it in an outer box and also pack that well - just to be sure, mate.
So, I'll have a look around at work tomorrow and see what we have in the disused tram shed and hopefully get the package away to you in the next 24hrs, pal.
Better it gets to you in 1st class nick a little later than planned rather than arrive as a heap of damaged junk flying out here without the proper preps.
I've seen your fantabulous packing many a time so I know you'll approve
Cheers, mate - will update when Eagle One is ready to fly to you.Vyper68 likes this. -

I always preferred the 800XL over the XE series, plus it will match the 1050's I have and I just need a 1010 which I will look for in the summer as my XC12 is just not very reliable.

What about one of the SD card devices instead of tape, save on those awful loading times?

I don't know how compatible the Fujinet is re disks and cas files (hopefully. very in your case Richie). If you ever want the most compatible way then get yourself an AVG or SUBAVG cart with the SIO cable. Not looked at what the SUBAVG can fully do. But my AVG run's everything I've thrown at it over the years. Not tried anything lately but I reckon it will be sound as a pound.
Then again, if the Fuji is doing all you need, then the AVG would just be an unused extra..The other nice thing that the AVG etc give is an onboard RAM upgrade.Andy Barr likes this. -

All boxed up good n proper now, Richie.
Of course my printer had to go and knack up tonight but I'll print your address label off tomorrow at work and get it to the courier ASAP tomorrow, mate.
Prob be early next week though now when you have the eagle landed your end, buddy...
