I don't know if I will be awake tonight for 8pm - going to have a sleep before watching the Super Bowl. But if I'm up then I'll be on :)

Enjoy your meet up, fellas, and I'll see you on the next one.

Bev's got me sorting a whole load of stuff out this afternoon and tonight to clear some space for one of those pelaton bikes about to arrive to help her get back to fitness.

It never ends and I know we'll just end up watching telly to relax later so next week's going to be better for me.

As for the Super Bowel - nah, isn't it rugby with body armour, Paul/Al?!

Give me pro-celebrity tiddlywinks or cribbage (on the Oric) anyday!

Each to their own - enjoy it, fellas.

ABOVE: Not everyone was a fan of cribbage on the Oric.

You see Andy, they take it seriously :)

To be honest Matt, I don't know how many sports still go on, there's so many links to incredibly serious medical conditions. Heading the ball in Soccer as you call it is now being linked to dementia and tumours. Boxing has resulted in so many deaths and delayed damage to the brain. Do I blame people for covering up, hell no, no use being the richest sportsman in the morgue.

As you say, it was much rougher in the 70s and 80s, in boxing the ref would allow much more punishment before stopping a fight, in soccer broken legs were a weekly event from the studs first tackles and things like rugby and US Football were bone crackers.

The only difference is that the Gladiators were expected to kill or be killed as you said, what limited armour they had was almost pointless in the end.

Its a tough one, do we make sport so safe its a bare bones version of what it was?

    Would that lessen the enjoyment?

Personally I don't want to see a person die or suffer serious injury for their sport, there can be tragic accidents but lets not make it so these accidents become as numerous as they were..

Thank goodness we don't have combat snooker :)

Yeah, I think I got on a bit of a rant there and am going to erase the last couple paragraphs...now that I've slept on it. Too much reasoning and explaining and it went off the rails.

I know, and I appreciate it, but I went way off of sports and into life philosophies and decided this morning when I re-read it that it was just a bit too much, even though I think most of you guys would agree with what I said, it was just far too off topic.

LOL! I agree with you there. I watched about 2 minutes of it, when the Buccaneers were going for the touchdown on 4th down and didn't make it, then checked back for a second later on and saw it was a blow-out. It did seem to prove that the Patriot's winning history was indeed a lot more to do with Brady then Belichick, considering how the Patriot's did this year without Brady, and how the long-time loser Buccaneer's did this year with Brady.

I had a discussion with my brother after the game last night about this and he disagreed because the Patriot's made it to the play-offs without Brady one year, I just shook my head and walked away, because I didn't want to argue and I think he, in fact, made my point because even the my Bears make it to the place offs about every other year, but they've sucked for a long time too; it's not that hard to make the play-offs, and even easier now that they have two more wild card spots, but making it through the play-offs is another story completely. My brother is a smart guy, and thinks he's smarter than me, but he's not.

Oh, God, NO! Never there. I made a one-line comment about loathing woman who have lots of tattoos and piercings over there yesterday and caught shit for being "judgemental." But the fact is, there is a type that does that, and I've known plenty, so my judgement was based on extensive experience. And so yes, I pre-judge that "type" of woman. But it pissed off a couple guys over there that I generally get along with.

It's in the 'images generated by Rastaconverter' thread.
LOL! Usually you would be right, we are usually getting warm enough by now, but we've had another Arctic front reach us down here this week and it's below freezing today with icy roads and lots of accidents from people that don't know better (I grew up in the north where it's a normal thing this time of year). But I'm well clothed and huddling near our wood-burning stove today. I heard it's a negative 50 degrees F. up in Wisconsin, where I used to live, today! We are at 28F right now.

Hi Graham, nice to know you've had the jab. The new head bud will start to show shortly LOL.

That's good news for you Paul. Why people have to make others lives a misery is beyond comprehension. Yes your sister will have been offered it because of her Diabetes

Great news for you Andy, one thing less to worry about.

And I've booked my second jab up at the Lincolnshire Show ground on the 20th of April.

Good to hear Andy, mother in law is awaiting her second one, I can have my free Oyster travel in June but no jab :(

Hopefully there won't be much of a queue for you Andy, when I took the MIL the queue was HUGE..

The actual length of the queue was about 7 x what you see there and as you can see, social distancing just didn't happen, apparently like sardines inside..

Sad to hear Andy, Bob believed his mother was living with him and that there were children in his flat, dementia is such a bloody horrible thing but that with those other things is just terrible. I hope it goes without incident...

Watch out for the exercise Police...

It wasn't too bad but I do have a problem with responsibility, so being the person who needed to get Serena's laptop back working it really plays on my depression, so something that isn't hard makes me sweat and I get a savage headache. If its an item for me I'm ok but when its important I struggle badly.

The joy of 14yrs untreated depression..

But I got the job done today which is the main thing..

Thankfully Nicola Sturgeon hasn't banned us from exercise just yet....

Depression is a bugger to put it mildly. I didn't get a proper diagnosis until around 4 years ago. The medication keeps me stable most of the time now thankfully. I find mindfulness techniques and even just some quietness helps a great deal. But with your neighbours you have no chance of the latter Paul. Hopefully it won't be too long until they get their marching orders.

Just taking a breather as I fell off the ladder in to the bath, sore but ok....Pride more hurt than anything..When up the ladder my knee's start shaking and then give in, nothing I can do about it. Mother in law wanted me to fix a slate on the front of the house but its simply too risky to go up that high and fall.

I hate DIY, put it off every time but got trapped this time..

Yes, don't mention it to your dear wife, you will be in for it...

Hope the code comes together, happy cogitating......My the process jump out at you..

Right, tea drunk, back to hell..

I'm fine, as said, my pride was more bruised than anything...I mean, falling off a 6ft ladder!..

At least I'm not one of those people going to A&E with sommit wedged up my ring..."And sir, how did you get this trowel up your back passage", "I fell on it", "nurse this is the third one today, its an epidemic".

So I'll take falling off a ladder, no rings involved...

Sounds like the old place is almost done, good to hear...

The cat will be pleased, his poor paws with all that cutting in work and mixing cement...

I just thought it best to flag this thread up again as we hope to join together online for a bit of a video conference chat tomorrow afternoon at 2pm UK time.

So far, me, Paul and Graham have said we'd be up for this and Manu (Klyde) and Nysavant Al have also expressed a definite interest. Further, Klyde was hoping to get Alex Drito (Dave-ex Cercamon) along for the "ride" too!? Richie sends his best, guys, but the Vyper is a little busy his end with things and hopes to tune in on another future link-up.

I make that 3 for sures plus 2 probables and maybe another one too so we might make a Super Sixer...

    We will see.

PREPARING IN ADVANCE - would one of the more techno-savvy comms guys amongst us PLEASE create some kind of link beforehand and choose a video conference program which is not so resource-hungry or intensive as my laptop aint the most modern of machines!!

Cheers and once more Happy New Year to all the members here on Atari Owner.

You guys - and your all important participation and contributions - make the forum tick and with you on board, we are together all the richer in health and happiness greatly extending the enjoyment of our hobby.

Oh, finally - anyone want to suggest a theme?! (Remember, this is very tongue in cheek but like the themes you get for fancy dress, it can greatly add humour to the party!)
