22100 for me on expert level. I found it easier with a gamepad but still really tough!

Good luck to you all, get around while you still can. The sec I win the lottery, there will be a luxury mobile home going up around the UK. I'll be in Scotland while Al, isn't

I tried to have a go last night, almost instantly my shoulder started moaning at me which drained the fun out of it. I'll see how it goes, don't want to be a spoilsport, but if I'm not enjoying it I have to stop. To be fair, I'm rubbish at Commando anyhow

A nice challenge for all the original Atarians. Me, I'm more a Commodorian, and although Commando was very popular for the C64 (and very similar to the A8 version, or is it the other way around, which version came out first?) I've always been useless with this game. At the time it was released, I remember me staring at the screen while my friends kept trying to beat their own high scores, instead of testing myself against the game. I barely could pass the first two levels... Maybe I can find a "trainee/cracked" version with infinite lives or I can prepare myself by studying a long gameplay video on YT...
After all, it is a great motivation to pull out one of my Atari 8-bit computers and have a go at this classic game. Considering my venerable age, my reflexes are more than a little fogged and I can barely kill a dozen enemies before I get shot.
If I ever achieve a respectable result, I will let you know. -

Yep, I love hearing from those times, we have all had our moments with what we would call our heroes, I just happened to be in the right place a lot of times. So if you have a nice story about those times, I'd love to hear it.

Had a wee try and not only was I awful but the neck just kicked in instantly.
Really annoys as I have about 5 PS4 games I simply will probably never enjoy...
Best of luck to you guys tho, may you smash these scores..My top tip, play while you still can.. -

Here's to the big Lotto win for Paul and Cindy so they can take to the road and fulfil all their road trip dreams.
In the meanwhile, I am definitely...

Sorry to hear, Paul. Wish we could wind the body clock back 10-20yrs for you, pal, and take those aches and pains away.
Hey, for anyone who never read issue 2 of Excel magazine (excellent Atari colour fan magazine from about 6-7 years ago edited and published by Robert Stuart: https://excel-retro-mag.co.uk/), here is a great review of Commando (+) which is inspiring me right now (it's raining out so I'm in from the garden jobs), to boot up the old beauty and tackle Al's high of 22,100 on Expert level - watch out, Al, I'm coming for yer!

Go for it Andy. Brilliant magazine as well, pity he hasn't published any more in recent years.

Agreed, Al.
I think Matt was trying to get in touch with him 2-3 yrs back as I believe he had some articles ready for him to publish in forthcoming issues... but alas it seems to have hit a brick wall and no further contact from Robert (unless Matt has an update on this?)
A great pity as this was a high quality production with some great vibrant content.nysavant likes this.
