I'm going to build a WEFAX interface

Back to Atari at least, though I can't see sight of the WEFAX coast anymore, here is what your personal Fujinet online page looks like to control some stuff and set stuff up for using Fujinet on your Atari.

Here I am on-line with 8-bit slicks on my Atari. A 320K disk image, but only a 64K Atari is needed. Something impossible for my 800 without Incognito.

Yes - Christmas tree still up at the bottom, awaiting the lifting of lockdown as we still plan to have a late-late-late Christmas party for Bev's folks to celebrate the "opening of the kitchen" (around Easter!)

So, that unit before the fridge is basically a tall slide-out shelved food cupboard...




The area beyond is a little sit down cosy TV area which should look out on to decking when the weather improves and we get that all put down.



This week we had a tree surgeon down to prune the silver birch as a lack of light out the back was becoming a big issue in the spring and summer but we're all trimmed now...

Thanks for the pictures. Currently my Pantry just has shelves in it, but your pull-out rail shelves is how I planned on doing it eventually, but double-wide like two of yours side-by-side. it's just one of the later things on the to-do list. But I spent a day paneling it and installing and painting standard shelves in the mean time.

Your picture of it from the other perspective made it look to me like that pantry cabinet was built over the refrigerator as well and another side. But you have a dividing wall on it's other side, so mine will be similar, only cupboards to the right of it. There was a short dividing wall there originally, but they built the cupboards and counter top in right next to the original refrigerator which was a small, old thing before I started rebuilding the house, and I ended up getting a sid-by-side refrigerator freezer that was taller and wider, so I had to tear out the old dividing wall and I still have make a new on about a foot to the left. then the counter and stools will be directly across from that, looking out onto the living room and about a 4-5 foot wide gap in-between to enter the kitchen. Track lighting and/or like you have done with your ceiling lights. The living room and kitchen both have the vaulted ceiling, continuous, like your front entry way there, but actually I think they peak at about 9", and aren't as high or steep as yours.

 

Yes, that 8-bit hub in the video is actually using the inferior ESP8266 chip like other versions of Fujinet do that are not being supported by the hardware sellers and I think you have to compile your own firmware for that version too.
And yes, Fujinet, at least for the Atari, has already obsoleted that except for maybe the 3rd controller port. But I do believe that Fujinet will work with that network like it does with 8-bit Slicks. But that's a great wi-fi system for the other computers that don't have Fujinet, like the Oric.

 

Oh still not getting any alerts even when it's shows as tagged and 'watching' I wonder if there is anthting that Tim can do as I'm sure I should see when new posts are added to something you have requested to watch ... doh ..
All looking nice in the kitchen department Andy .. an now with Bev on the mend she'll be able to get around a little easier. Mmm Christmas Dinner at easter .. only time ever did something like that was June/July sometime for my ex brother in law visiting from the States (Matt he lives in downtown Dallas now was in Plano just outside).
The 8 Bit hub looks very intereting. I had a quick look in my electronics boxes and guess what I have all the parts needed to build one, I bought the Atmega 2560 with the ESP8266 only at christmas as a hmm thats intresting i'll get one of those to play with .. was about £12.
For now Fuji Net looks like this :-

Just soldered on the ESP32 module. waitin on a breakout board for the SD card but have the rest of the bits and bobs to make up some circuit boards when I've confirmed the thing all works correctly from my own test's.


these are the 470 Ohm resistors , next to a normal pin header, so there a fraction wider but very short.. 1.55mm x 0.85mm going to be fun soldering ..
hey get this on the pricing .. buy 1 = 7p, needed 5 so 35p it suggested I buy 10 not five ... price for 10 = 10p i.e. a 1p each ...

Very nice! You'll be Fujinet'in in no time! If you aren't all on top of the latest from AA, a new game was released for the A8 yesterday called Albert. Did someone ever suggest the 8-bit Atari was an Amiga jr.? After seeing and playing this game, I'm not so sure it couldn't have gone head-to-head with it's over-grown progeny, if the time to really get to know what this machine is capable of had ever been fully researched. Albert, AtariBlast!, Space Harrier, Stunt Car Racer, The Last Squadron, they all look like 16-bit quality games to me, and play like it too. This is no VBXE upgrade or Sophia 2 new GTIA modes...this is good old Antic and GTIA doing what they always could.

 

So, @Graham , your not getting any little blue thought bubbles with a number in them directly above the 'ALERTS' button at on the top bar across every page in the forum? How about the latest postings by people if you scroll down the page looking at the far left window column? There is no activity listed if you preemptively click on the 'Alerts' button at the top? There should be a drop-down window when you put the pointer on it, with the last half-dozen postings, and if you click on it, takes you to a separate page where you can scroll back even further. I know this isn't the same as getting e-mail or text notifications, but I usually ignore those anyway and just come to the forum and see what might be new, if I don't already have a blue bubble above the 'Alert' tab/button.

 

Just had a quick shot at Albert. That is one impressive (and hard) game!
It's funny how I get more excited about releases like this than about anything that is coming out on the latest Microsoft or Sony consoles....

I've been hard at it and have made it to level 5 now. Once you figure out which style control works best for you, and you get practiced, you'll get there. I settled on the up-angle for run and button for jump. The wasps on level 3 or 4 are incredible looking too, though it does also reveal a limitation, apparently, to graphics so detailed; no animation. No wings flapping or "buzzy" vibrating, but just sliding by on a wire like at a shooting arcade. Still, the game is fun and addictive, and the new levels with new graphics keep you going back to see what's next.

Playing some more, I realized I had missed the wasp's wings "flutter" with some color rotation. The video of the game above doesn't show the wasp wing animation, like it's skipping every other frame (60fps down to 24-30fps?). In the actual game on my computer, the wasp's wings are fluttering.

 

Well, back on subject for a moment; the IC for the WEFAX decoder arrived today.

 

@M.D.Baker Nope !

When I click on the ALERT button I did get a list with three updates all to this thread, two from you and one from Al.
No Bubble or similar, I should also be seeing an email but nothing there either. I did'nt even get one for a PM sent to me, and they did work at some point.
It maybe the security settings I use, or indeed the browser. I stick with Firefox, as I don't really want to you Microsoft or Google's Chrome. for basically similar reasons. I also block all Social media trackers, and near all adverts, although some I still can't block.
I have however disabled all these for certain sites Ebay, as that just stops working with some bits enabled, and I've tried with this site.
If a new thread or something is started I'll have to go looking,AOC says i'll get and alert for watched threads but I don't, On older threads that I've watched, it's like it's decided not to bother letting me know anymore, even in the Alert list nevermind an email.
I guess I spent too much time typing and not searching

Both have added components I don't need, worst case the hot air gun to remove the crap (and solder in links to bypass), but the SD card should be o.k at 3.3V
the micro needs 5V but converts all to 3.3V a pain, happy with just 3.3V with nothing required between the ESP32 and the raw card socket.

 

by the way the
Tecsun PL-330 seems pretty reasonable, but the SSB step is 10Hz, should be o.k for data, voice wont be any different. not sure without checking back what one you were going to get ?

 

I went researching, and I think the PL-330 is right for me too. If my budding interest in SW takes off, I can buy something bigger and better later. I think I'll be integrating WEFAX and Fujinet, etc. into my 800 robot eventually too. The more services my 8-bit robot can offer, the more useful I can make it. I do plan on it having cameras and mic's and motion sensors and other sensors so it can find it's way around. It may not be much better than a Rumba, but it should be. I've been watching lots of videos about building robots and all the types of sensors available for it to interact with the real world, significantly for an 8-bit bot. The PL-330 can be installed in the robot eventually too.

 

Good luck with your hand-eye coordination during the surface-mount soldering! Keep a cigar and a sip of the old Rye nearby for a steady hand.

 

As you can see, I have a few extra of the 2211CP IC's, the core of the WEFAX decoder. The smallest batch I could order was 5. I think it was less than $10 all together though. It would be cheaper for those of you on the other side of the pond just to pick them up yourselves, but if @Timothy Kline ever has the time to join in again and maybe do a project like this, or anyone else here that is state-side, I'd be happy to send one too, for free as I can protect it with a bit of foam and tape and send it in a standard envelope for the going standard postage rate of less than a dollar with my USPS "Forever" stamps.

 

I almost got one of these, selling on Amazon for $90, but then I found a kit SW w/SSB for $30 and assembled for $60. I got the latter since I have enough projects already.

 

My new SW radio arrived today. Now I just need to get or make a bigger antenna and attach it to my Fujilab trailer roof and I have to build my WEFAX decoder since I've had all the parts for a while now. But I have a few other things to finish first...

I built that WEFAX receiver from ANTIC back-in-the-day.
As a high school student, I also managed to get a short-wave radio with vacuum tubes, and happily plugged it all into my Atari 800XL.

With proper tuning, I worked just enough to qualify as success!!

... then lost interest.
... discovered it was more interesting to listen in to nearby wireless phone calls just above the AM radio spectrum.

 

The story of my life...Find something, build it, play with it for what seems like a day and then...Bored

 

I still have yet to build it myself. I think have everything to do it though. Just life and 1001 other projects keep stopping me.

 

Matt, I think you can safely excuse yourself for not building it yet. Your roller coaster is still going..
