Hello everyone, in October 2025, I launched a new column in RMW magazine dedicated to electronic repair technicians who, in the world of retrocomputing, are essential figures allowing us all to use the original hardware of our systems. These are interviews consisting of 20 questions about their work in this era of nostalgia and hardware innovations that expand and make our old 8/16-bit machines usable again. So far, I have identified three Italian technicians who are passionately dedicated to repairing Commodore, MSX, Sinclair, etc. machines on behalf of users. Now I would like to expand the column to include technicians in the UK, Germany, France, Poland, etc. In short, technicians operating in Europe and, why not, even in the USA. If you have any ideas or know of any good technicians who are “famous” in the world of European retrocomputing, please let me know or put me in touch with them. The interview is normally conducted in English on 20 selected questions, and the interviewee can take their time and respond via email. Three to four pictures and some references/links/bibliography are required to accompany the publication of the interview in English and Italian (RMW is published in both languages). Thank you in advance to all those who can recommend people they consider to be skilled repair technicians and hardware experts. What about some of the members on AOC?
I'm not "famous" LOL but I can repair every 8-Bit out there and a few consoles. Puts Helmet on and ducks back under the wall.
Too late, @Vyper68 - you can't hide anymore! I've seen your British helmet poking out of the trench! Actually, I had already thought of you among the technicians I know, thanks also to the intercession of good old Baz. So it's done! Consider yourself "hired"! I'll send you a draft of the interview with the questions and all the details shortly.
Me and my big mouth Yeah look forward to getting the form. I think you might have my email from when I sold you the Dragon.
I should have your email somewhere... or did we exchange messages through Signal or WA? Anyway, my quest for your digital address might be very long, so I think I'm going to ask you here via PM. ;-) I wouldn't be able to repair my electric kettle, last time I've tried to fix a C16 showing a sad dark screen, I only managed to obtain... well, a saddest darker screen and some gray smoke lingering in the RAM zone of the motherboard...
