Joking aside re the arguments about systems, I've always been an advocate of going where the good stuff is versus being a system fan boy. I love (for a while) the arguments on Atari Age re how great the Atari is next to the C64, people get so animated and suddenly start making up facts that are nonsense for either system. I've never been a big fan of the Spectrum because of the lack of sprites and colour clash BUT it was one of the UK's biggest selling computers with thousands upon thousands of devoted users to this day, that speaks for itself. Are their good games on it, yes some stonkers.

Same with the consoles, some stunning that platform only games, do I not get them because they are on a 'rival' platform...Hell no..Go where the goodies are.

 

Good luck with that Alan, I'm not an Amstrad person so can't help but I do like to see someone get pleasure out of the old gear..

Mind you I say that and I'm slowly losing my old gear for a very good cause (my daughter), sad to see it go but I still have my trusty 800XL with U1mb in and the trusty AVG cart anda C64 with the Ultime 1541 plus so I'm well covered still. Maybe I'll have a phase in a while where I want it all back

Glad you still have the 800XL and AVG. I don't think there is a more usable A8 than the trusty old XL. I'd never part with mine - or the original 800 I bought a few years ago. It doesn't really get used very much apart from the odd game on cartridge but I always lusted after one and it just looks awesome!

As I used to say to my ex - "it's not what you've got but how you use it that counts....."

 

Morning Andy, thanks for the tip. I had already messsaged Richie about a 6128 but I might mention the 464 as well now.

Hope the new kitchen is holding up. What's next, an Oric Museum in the attic?

I'll post some pictures up as it's just about, just about, there! Unfortunately, our kitchen fitter went down with a positive COVID test about 3 weeks ago and since then his family have been badly affected by it so no work's gone on here since but we tested negative so that was a relief.
We're still waiting on: gas fitter, plumber and tiler to sort a few jobs then there's another wave of works to come which will feature a new staircase (up to the Oric Attic Attack) and so we'll have to see where our Bev decides to let me play with me toys when all's done and dusted, mate. My money's on the potting shed, fella, out with the other oddments, surplus tat and the waives n strays and ne'er do wells!

Note: we still don't have a working stove or working sink... all "work in progress" still due to COVID (where have I heard that before?!?)







It's distinctly getting there - just needs the gas fitter, plumber, kitchen fitter and builders to return and sort out the remaining dozen or so snagging jobs but when you've had folks suffering with the virus, folks' health's gotta come first so our thoughts are with them though they are all on the mend now, thank god.

Well it seemed wrong from the outset as he said it was coming via Hermes but when I checked the track number it was 12 numbers and the track site said its 8 or 16 long. Its only after I asked for the proper number this started. Another oddity, he calls himself Barry but the refund was from William..

incidentally if he is collecting parcels from me and i have one not in the system yet as i have only just booked it he will take that one also and book it in the following day when it is on system, however news is his van complete with 100 parcels was stolen right after my pickup, in fact at the petrol station behind my house, i did notice that day a police van blocking the garage entrance but thought no more of it until yesterday,

The worst thing about selling on EBay, you never know if the buyer/seller is really legit. That's the nice thing about being on a friendly forum like this, you guys are all trustworthy. Well except that Baz one maybe with his weird Orc computers or whatever they are called....

And Paul, all computers are good despite the playground arguments we used to have as kids. Imagine back then knowing that one day you could have ALL the systems you wanted. Mind blowing.

Saying that, I think you should start a new thread where you argue the relative merits of Atari v Commodore with yourself

My Oric version of Manic Miner has 12 or so more levels than your Spectrum. The Oric version of Hunchback has scrolling walls (the Spectrum doesn't). Go and press your dead sea creatures keyboard. The Oric version is better. And harder.

@nysavant, I guess that @Klyde can help you out with your craving to put your hands back on a CPC. Some time ago he helped me find a 6128 and he was kind enough to stuff it with a gotek replacing the internal 3" drive. Very nice job indeed.

 

Looking really smart Andy. All the blue and grey gives it a very calming look. The copper adds a touch of class as well. Bev obviously has good taste!

 

Looks great Andy, very stylish although I have to say his cutting in skills with the beige paint could have been a bit neater by the patio doors (could be the light / photo though). Sorry, I was doing contract work before I fell off the roof and screwed my spine, my boss would pick me up on any little thing so I've inherited that trait Painting was never a fave...

But joking aside its really does look brilliant overall, he's a bloody good worker and you and Bev seem to have a knack of picking the right extra's for the rooms. Lets hope its all connected up soon and a man cave is formed. The potting shed is nice for the summer but no home for the 'other' loves of your life, they need a sturdy old man cave to flourish in.

And yeah, what a change from the earlier photo's, you worked that cat damn hard but it shows. Seriously how is Chris and his family, getting better I hope. Just found out that our neighbours daughters fella (father of their 3 kids) is in hospital on a ventilator and very very ill with Covid, he's around 40 and its taken to him hard, poor bloke. With me being 60 soon I get the shivers when I meet people with no masks and coughing and as its winter season with colds all around I see it everywhere.

Bloody pandemic makes you paranoid but I work on the old adage, better safe than sorry..

It's another area that needs tidying & finishing off is that rather ragged painting which has gone over on to the metal frame of the bifold doors. Well spotted, Paul. I'll add it to the cat's list of snags!

All of Chris' family are now back on their feet, thanks for asking, fella, and back to work though we haven't seen Chris round here as I think his body needs a proper rest (and as he works f/t Mon-Fri anyway, his weekend jaunts here can't have helped) so we'll see him maybe in the New Year - we'll see how these new-look tiers look and Hull is still way too high to have folks round so that's that.

As you say, we all have to be so careful and masks are still a must when out and about, buddy.

The dreaded snag list, when they redid here I compiled a huge list, talk about cut corners ie Gloss paint equate to Matt undercoat paint. Bath panel cut by Stevie Wonder, non working fans, dangerously wired consumer unit...The list just went on and on and I wasn't being picky, it was just horrible work. Mears who used them were furious with them, dropped them straight away.

Not kidding about the cold, feet like ice, C5, not good enough, needs at least a stratocaster or two..

I might need to rationalise my collection as I have kit all over the shop right now.

 

I'm actually relieved at most of mine going, its been sat on top of the wardrobe and in cupboards doing sod all, had I got the space to have it out it may have been different but its all going to a good cause. As most know, I'd rather see kit being used that just hang on to it.

Blasted C64 psu just died the other day, its an ingot equivalent for the C64 ie known to fail and cause issues and totally epoxy cased...

I ordered one, was supposed to come today but the seller said the couriers van got stolen with a load of parcels inc mine so had to refunded me..After trying to wiggle out of it..

 

I am always suspicious of these claims as to my mind a company like Hermes or DHL/Yodel wouldn’t tell a sender this kind of information unless were really pressured.
