I picked the MK1 model with the RGB output that is the same as the MK1 Megadrive ( I want one of those as well eventually ) looks great on my SCART->HDMI upscaler. I have a 600 in 1 Everdrive Cart for it on it's way so I'll have every game released for the SMS on one Cart.

Altirra now does a load of printer emulation, 1029 included..I used Print Shop and printed out a Happy Birthday banner with cakes on...LOL..Made me smile. Barely used my Epson FX80, the odd dump of code if I was writing something, but mostly it sat quiet. Even these days I rarely use my printer / scanner as more than a scanner. The only stuff I print are for the in-laws, prayer timetables etc. Can you even get the ribbons for the 1029?

This weeks retro finds guys. Clockwise from top left we have
Ambernic RG35XX SP - I've been wanting a modded Gameboy SP for a while but couldn't justify the cost. For half the price this makes a great alterntive. It looks feels and plays better just like the SP but with the added benefits of emulating lots of other systems with RetroArch.
USED 3.5" FLOPPY DISKS - picked up by a mate at a car boot sale. I had a rummage through and came back with a handful. Some are labelled from a games shop I worked in 35 years ago and a couple of others are software on demand titles from WH Smith/John Menzies that I've never seen before. The most interesting though is one that simply says "ST List". I'm hoping this might actually be a list of games from back in the days of the infamous Barras Market. Will need to check it out soon.
WOODED DISK COASTERS - custom made by said mate from above. Ideal for refereshment placement in the Al Cave. He also sells them in four packs like this for £10 posted.
USB FLOPPY DRIVE - another carboot find. Going to try and use this to load Amiga and maybe ST games right into some of the emulators available on the PC.

I have about 100 floppy disks in two boxes I bought off feeBay a few years ago. Cannot use them currently as I have no working floppy drives and I’m relying on Goteks. No idea what’s on them, never really looked. I had them for my Acorn ADFS and SEDORIC which I don’t have anymore. I should dig them out and check.

My latest buy is a SAROO Cart for my Sega Saturn, plays EU,US & JAP ISO files, emulates 1M and 4M RAM Carts and emulates the Saturn memory and also a Backup cart. All in one Cart. I can literally play every Saturn game available without stressing it's CD drive. It's is a game changer as Saturn games are getting quite expensive these days.
-
by Vyper68Well where do I start LOL
I had a Saturn for most of the 32 Bit era so I had plenty of games.
Everything by Lobotomy - Exhumed,Duke Nukem and Quake
Shining the Holy Ark
Alien Trilogy
Sega Rally
Nights into Dreams
Tomb Raider
Tempest 2000
I never got to play the Japanese games back then so I was playing Metal Slug today. -

I got the Saturn mainly for racing games - Outrun, Daytona, Manx TT, Power Drift, Chase HQ. Other games I enjoy on it are Rampage, Tetris and Die Hard. My mate with the shop is right into Japanese Shmups but I've never been a big fan of anything more advanced than Galaga.
That's strange with the RetroBit, hope they sort it soon. Thinking of getting one of their pads for using with the Ambernic as just found out it has bluetooth built in. That's another system I'd recommend for someone like yourself Richie, fast becoming a favourite of mine. -

This is putting me in the mood for some Saturn gaming
The PS2 got a bit of a runout yesterday with Outrun Coast 2 Coast and Auto Modellista. My rejigged cave setup is just about complete now so will try and post pictures over the weekend.

That's a nice setup Andy. I do like the Dreamcast a lot and that looks a great starter kit for someone. I was playing Modellista yesterday and you're right Allen it's a great game. I really like the Cell shaded graphics, I used to like that style. Jet Set Radio on the DC was another excellent Cell shaded game. There was one on the Wii which I cannot remember the name of and a game called XIII on the Gamecube and PS2/Xbox
-
by Paul "Mclaneinc" Irvine
The ultimate Cell game has to be Zelda Windwaker..
I liked XIII, nice stealth / shooter, they brought a remastered version out on the Switch but preferred the old one. Ha ha, Jet Set, was I the only one who felt a little bad when doing the graffiti sections

Well here we are, the latest additions and supplements to my retro mancave.
1) Atari 2600 tin signs. There is nothing I like more than a good vintage looking tin sign so when I saw these three clasic game ones they had to get added to the cave, and the perfect spot was right next to my 80's style Atari corner.
2) New screens for old looking new tech. After buying a portable 15" hdmi monitor to use with my Anbernic and being so impressed with it I ended up getting another for the A500 Mini and The Vic20. Picture quality is great and the screen size is perfect for a bit of old school gaming, just like on a 14" crt telly used to be. Added a couple of little tablet stands to make them fully adjustable and more than happy with the results.
3) Sega Master System. Always had a soft spot for this particular system because of its fun games and lovely colour palette. When I got the chance to acquire a nice condition one I grabbed it. Only have Hang On (built-in) and Enduro Racer for it but am putting together a list of a few other titles to seek out.
4) Playstation Console. And so it wouldn't feel out of place I have ended up with an original Playstation as well. Wasn't even on my radar but it came along with the Master System and I have already thought of a specific use for it (see no.5 below)
5) NecGon Controller. This is an analogue pad for the PS1 and PS2 that twists on it's centre axis for driving games. Being a big arcade racer fan I had always wanted to give one a try but never had the opportunity. Fast forward to last month and while at the Game On video games exhibition in Edinburgh they had one attached to a Playstation wtih Ridge Racer. Well I just had to give it a go, didn't I? Took a couple of plays but started getting used to it and actually enjoying the movement. A quick trip to EBay and I now have my very own NecGon. It is now plugged into the above Playstation along with all the original PS1 Ridge Racer dervied games and I've already started to improve my lap times. What a smashing controller it is
Next step is to pick up some more NecGon compatible racers and have more high speed fun.
I think that is just about everything for now fellow Atarians. I'm going to go away and quietly sell another Kidney and put together an updated hit-list of games and hardware wants

Lurving both the Atari tin signs and those dinky 15" HDMI monitors - narce bites there, Al!
If you don't mind me asking, how much approx were the wee monitors, mate?
Once more, your retro haul gets another boost and those shelves are beginning to sag as they are carrying so much stock... if you ever need to orfload you know where I am, buddy
!
Excellent work, Al - it makes working all worthwhile a few tempting treats from time to time (well, that's what I keep telling myself but did I tell you fellas, I've got that beginning of year £10k + debt reet down to less than £5k now so I'm gitting there, so sod it - life's for living). -
by nysavant
Brilliant news on the credit card front Andy. You can almost afford an Oric floppy drive now!
The monitors were pennies under £80 each but I'm really pleased with them. There are loads on Amazon and I did try others first but these two seemed the best quality/interface wise. I was also suprised at how decent the sound quality was.
The Atari 1029 may go at some point but I'm not sure. Seeing that LC10 of yours got me thinking and then I realised that I never actually had a printer for my 800XL. It wasn't until I got an ST that I bought an LC10 and joined the dot-matrix revolution. So now an LC10 is on my retro wants list

A little bit of time off work this afternoon so had a quick drive down to my pal's shop Forgotten Worlds and picked up some Playstation One games with a memory card and Leaderboard for the Master System. Almost all were on my wants list so a good haul.
The floppy drive and attached box is a Greaseweazle which lets your PC read ST and Amiga disks and convert them to image files. Was kindly able to borrow it from a local Amiga user group member to try out. I'll write up my findings when I get a chance but have had a couple of success stories so far with it

Happy to report the “untested” Dragon 32 is fully functional. Nice Composite output and tape, joystick and cartridge ports work. So result! Paid half what people are asking for working models on feeBay

I picked up Colin McRae Rally for PS1 this week as well as I’m into Rally games at the moment. Plays better on the PS2 than PS3 as does Shockwave Assault. The PS1 definitely does FMV better than the Saturn when you compare games like Shockwave.
So I went and bought a Commodore C16 yesterday again untested so we’ll see if the TED is toast when it arrives. I prefer the C16 case and Keyboard compared to the Plus 4 and I’ve already researched how to do the 64K RAM upgrade. So all being well I will have a VIC 20, C64, C16 and C128. So technically a model from all the 8-Bit ranges Commodore made. I have no chance of getting an A400 or even less chance of a A800 and I think I’ve missed the boat for a 1200XL these days so I’ll just settle for my mint 800XL and my pimped 65XE. Oddly changing my PSU has made my SIDE3 behave with my XE whereas before I had a lot of problems with corruption, my model is a 3.0 so not dogged with this JED issue. It just shows how fickle 8 bit kit can be.

Up for vid call at some point.
Seems everyone is in buying mode (bar me), can't imagine anything I want on the retro side, sure a cheap 400 mini would be nice, but nothing hitting the taste buds (well except for dodgy Marmite Cashews (and they aint a hit))..
I'm happy that you all are enjoying yourselves, poor Andy has missed out, hope the refund is soon for a 2nd try.
Had a wee play at emulated WiiU, wasn't 'in the groove' as they say. Weird way of saying I was rubbish at what I played. Played Axiom Verge until I found there was a big bug in the emulator re that game (garbled graphics that don't work as they should). Nintendoland was quite fun, very hard to describe, a look at a YT video would be your best move. Uses the tilt mechanics from a PS4 controller.
Really must have some time on the PS4 now it's Jail Broken. Got games for it but every time I have a go my arms start playing up, for some reason the PS4 seems to be a real trigger. Not much fun when you suddenly pinch a nerve and it then keeps happening.
Will go and see the kitten in a min, with all the poking, injecting (esp the microchipping needle (huge fat thing) I thought she must have had enough of me keeping her still. Must admit, she was an angel with the vet.
Enjoy the evening / later on peeps..
Might have a few glasses of fall over juice as it's our 44th (may be 45th, I never remember how long it is) anniversary, depends on how my guts feel. -

Wow, that SIDECAR looks the mutts nuts, amazing what people create now.
2 little cards replacing vast chunks of components. Not an ST person, but if I was, I'd be a happy chappy knowing gear like this was about now. -

Happy Birthday, Bev, 21?
I would say to enjoy the gardening, but after hours of spade and fork work recently, it's deffo not that enjoyable as my aching body agrees. Have fun with mother and enjoy the coast. Hope Richie gets the Oric going etc, he's the man for the job..
PS Didn't realise you were AC DC .....oooerr... -
