Nice work on the CPC by the way Andy. It's a good little machine. Just need to add an external Ear socket so you can load CDT images via a Maxduino device, save you a fortune in games.

That's very kind and gracious of you, Graham.
At this early of a stage, I'd settle just for the means to safely connect two Atari 8-bits via the second joystick port, and I can play around with the software side of things, including the bit-banging, via PEEKS and POKES and go up from there once I have a good feel for the process.
A second PIA would allow the "network" to go full-speed/duplex, but like I said: I'd be more than happy with just the necessary connection via the joystick port. . . without frying either system, of course!

Hi Matt something to check when in 800XL mode, I think the O.S is still using Port B that are used on Joysticks 3&4 in 800 mode. (as you did say)
However I know this is 'emulated' within incogneto as such but not sure if you can access the PIA PortB as a certain lines used to control memory mapping for the XL. thus the O.S resets them back to the values in the shadow registers in the O.S.
I guess its something to check, likewise I'm not sure what will happen with a U1MB board installed, it may stop access directly to the hardware, as the memory is now on the U1MB so emulates portB the same way as incogneto.
I'll get round to it and see what happens.
Was it the 400 you were going to use as the animated Arm controller , seem to remember you mentioning this on A.S
Re boards, I can either make something and send it over of add to OSH Park or similar for you to make, this maybe a cheaper way for you. But lets see where we get to first.Andy Barr likes this. -

Actually, I wouldn't mind seeing the pedals used for some sort of Atari 8-bit version of Rock Band, handling the kick drums, for example.
Someday, but not today.

I think anything that adds to the looks; be it what looks like a very nice oak cabinet, or glass display shelves to tastful globes, 'vintage' retrobilia ( a new word?) is good, I see Tim likes collecting the documentation as well.
I love RGB / RGBA / RGBWA lighting strips, usually controlled by DMX so I can play with the colours (Colors' for Matt), that way I can go with mood, or on occation the beat of a track to change the colours.. Hmm wondering if I could design a DMX interface for Atari, has it ever been done ?
PSU's Hmm think I'll have to do the same, have draw full of psu's ditto, mains leads if seperate, a look uder my work desk shows 4 wall sockets all used, with 2x 6 ways mounted on the wall (all used), and additional one on the floor with 2 spares outlets, and a newly plugged in 8 way that I've used recently, I thought the two sixways were all I needed. I was so wrong, anyone else always short to sockets?M.D.Baker likes this. -

Lurving that 800 and CX85 paired together, Matt and the bill was a whopping $20? Call Starsky & Hutch - there's been a retro robbery somewhere! Excellent asset acquisition. Mine went up to Nysavant and I think he plans to downgrade it and turn in into an Oric. Also liking the radio alarm green LCD display, the calculator on standby and the racks of ROMs. Even from this side of the pond, this set-up just hums of sweet old nostalgia and my recycled retro nostrils are picking up the positive perfumes. Are those x2 Indus GTs sat on top of the battle tank? If so, think about changing their "skins" to 810 camo??! Only joking, fella - the set-up is grand as it is and I also spot the Atari 400 mouse mat design which you were kind enough to send me t'other Xmas. Marvellous line-ups, Matt.

Nice Diagram! I think I may use it one day to make a matching keypad for my 1200XL, since the 800 is the only model to ever get one.
@Graham , How much are the Pokey MAX boards selling for and are there more for sale or was it a limited run? I wasn't particularly interested before because I could still get real Pokey's for cheaper and the original run, IIRC, was only made for arcade boards and wasn't compatible with the 8-bits?Andy Barr likes this. -

Bootiful, absolutely bootiful.
Class 80s brilliant build...
Lovely pics, Matt.
Here's another angled pic I pinched off the web.
Al Nysavant, did you ever get yours up and running as yet?

It's great to hear you have the regulators to fix your 800, I have also found that the 800 has so little clearance around Pokey that the PokeyMAX will in my case end up in there with the original in another Computer as a stereo upgrade. Pokeyone is cheaper I think only $36 U.S however the MAX has both in one package so its the best choice for me, Just hope the Pokeys in your machine are o.k as a PITA to unsolder cleanly when stacked.

I'll think about it. Meanwhile you can find plenty of ZXes, still this side of the Atlantic, I'm afraid. But I'm pretty sure that the guys at AOC can arrange something for you, me included.

Several of the items I purchased the last couple weeks have been bouncing around in USPS on their way here... not counting those that are STILL in the system, bouncing around nonsensically.
For example, the following item (see screenshot) originated in Virginia, moved to Maryland, almost made it to me when it reached Detroit, then left Michigan to be sent off to Illinois.
And several other items are seeing the same confusion.

I LOVE the TRON mythos!! I was probably one of the rare few who enjoyed TRON: Legacy and especially the 3D release! I'm a total sucker for 3D, since the red-green plastic "glasses" that came with my Creature From the Black Lagoon poster, thank you Scholastic! I wonder what ever came of that, anyhow? Probably destroyed by my mother like everything else I had while living under her roof.
But yeah, 3D and TRON... they were made for each other. It'll be a sad, sad day in Grandpa Tim's house when either the TV or the Blu-Ray player die cuz they aren't making any more for the foreseeable future. That and plasma televisions. I'll take plasma over LCD or LED any day. But ya better have a room you can darken for the trade-off, too.
And TRON: Uprising...!!! I'm glad I recorded that while it still aired. Too short-lived a series, but if you enjoy the TRON mythos and haven't seen the Disney series track it down and give it a watch. Remarkable work.
Word in the wild was that if Disney hadn't brokered the deal with Lucasfilm, they were moving to make TRON their franchise-- which is why TRON: Legacy was released. Market testing. Disney killed the series and picked up the Star Wars animation that I think finished up its 7th season and I think think was an ending. The title escapes me at the moment.
Flynn lives, indeed!

I'm a Tron sucker, saw it in Canada...Totally loved it...I've said before that all the malls there at the time had Vic20's in and had lines Like Access Project Tron (can't remember the typed line from the film at this sec) followed by Syntax Error

I'm a film fan as well, sci fi action and comic stuff does my fix.
Never seen a film bar 3 secs of Finding Nemo or the like in 3D, was told it gave headaches. Would be nice to have one of the TV's to see it before they are dropped as its less of a supported feature I'm told.Graham likes this. -

My wife and I are actually going to be watching the 3D release of Wizard of Oz this evening. Been long enough since we last watched it that I've been humming "If I only had a ..." all week.
Such a beautiful film, and the 3D translation is mind-blowing, Paul. Absolutely stunning. Even the black-and-white segment!
But you're right that some people do experience headaches. Since this was in the days when I had disposable income, I went with a high-end Samsung 3D plasma and paired 3D lenses and only had one person in the years since complain of a headache, and they took a brief break and were fine for the remainder of the film (Maleficent, another fave of mine for 3D). Some people will be more sensitive than others, for sure.
I really thought and would've loved to see 3D take off. VR is intriguing but priced beyond my interest's limits. And I don't have free space to really enjoy VR anyhow. Closest I came was with the Google glasses gadget that you band your cell phone into. Now THAT gave me headaches, and, again, this was a top-end Samsung phone with the highest available resolution. So, VR doesn't seem to be there yet for me.
But beginning with those 3D glasses in school, and staring at that poster... or the ViewMaster slideshows, I have loved 3D and holography. Will I live to see holography become the new VR? I'd like to think so because it'll be amazing. IMAX theaters are a bland foregleam of what I imagine possible once tech reaches the capabilities demanded by holography.
As long as it doesn't give me a headache, of course.

RE: TRON: Uprising
I don't know if the new Disney+ network is carrying the series, but watching the 19 episodes in 4-7-min bites is hardcore. I have the episodes in 720p, but they are a gig per episode, too, so approximately 21-22 gigs of visual and plotline delight...
Lance Henriksen chews up his scenes as a baddie, of course. Mandy Moore, Elijah Wood, and Bruce Boxleitner all lent their talents to the series, and even Olivia Wilde makes an appearance as Quorra. And who can miss Tricia Helfer as the voice of the Grid itself.

Well, I guess I will just have to check it out since I recently obtained Disney+ via my brother. I watched the first season of the Mandalorian, then started watch an archeology show with this guy who travels the world using this new laser radar system called "lidar" or something like that, that reveals structures hidden by jungle and sand and time...pretty impressive.

So, received a copy of Music Construction Set by ariolasoft from Germany, which is supposed to work, and nothing. Gets past the EA logo for about 3 to 4 seconds and stops loading. I've tried this on 2 stock 1050 drives and my XF551 with the same results. All speeds are correct on the drives, and other commercial disks load no problem. Really annoyed.
Does this require one of the earlier Atari OS's?Graham likes this. -

It should load fine on an XL/XE. Apart from the following snip from the Reference Card, I'm not sure what might be happening there apart from the copy-protection failing somehow...?
