    Hi @AlexDrito
So the cartridge can hold 4 16KB ROM images. Sinclair didn't produce many cartridges so that is a bit limiting and it can only be a 16KB image. There are other options for larger games like the Dandanator or more exotic variations of the Interface 2 cart using bank switching but that relies on extra logic. This one basically gives you a standard interface 2 cart but uses a dip switch to choose which image.
The images available for the cart I made can include games but there are also alternative BASIC's and diagnostic ROMs as well so you could use the Interface 2 or a clone of it as a diagnostic system for a Speccy.

Nice work on the CPC by the way Andy. It's a good little machine. Just need to add an external Ear socket so you can load CDT images via a Maxduino device, save you a fortune in games.

    Cheers, Rich!

I will open your box - prob Wed night as I'm visiting mam in Brid tomorrow night but as you know, the CPC464 is hogging the limelight at this moment in time.

Knight Tyme and Oh Mummy, Harrier Attack - those bundled Amsoft titles getting a good run through right now and I'm really enjoying the Amstrad system's "complete" package and the great clear yellow font on a blue background.
It's truly cool schmule old school round at Baz's reet now!

Some fiendish puzzles to solve in Knight Tyme - and being a noob, it's novel and I need the walk-through :)

Never played this one before - bit of fun, nothing to get too excited about.

But this one, if I've played it a 1000 times, I've actually played it 10,000!

    The one and only...

HARRIER ATTACK - chocks away and we're back in the Falklands again.
Cheers, Rich - I lurve the CPC system but you watch Al come down and raid it from me in 10 days time :) !

As if I would Andy... ;)

So glad you are enjoying it mate. If you have any of the Roland games they are usually fun as well.
There was a good homebrew of Deathchase for it as well and some of the French isometric adventures were amazing.

Just wait, next thing we know you'll be auditioning for The Apprentice and getting Lord Sugar to sign your 464!

OK, AT LAST - ROCKING RICHIE'S PARCEL IS OPENED!

    upload_2026-4-26_13-21-57.png
GREAT PACKING INSIDE - ALWAYS - THANKS, RICH.

I'm calling this part 1 as it's BIG and I'm not on about the size of Al's LPG fuel tank, either (apparently he can gan twice round Jupiter on one refuel). No, I mean Rich has packed several boxes/projects into one big box so here goes.

Part 1 - PSUs ARE US... you send em, we mend em. And by god, he does...

Thank you, Rich, these 3 first items are/look to be all working lovely jubbly (need to test the Atmos FDD PSU) - thank you, my mate.

So, let's recap on what they are/what they power...

    upload_2026-4-26_13-23-15.png

Three units in there - a rechargeable solar "flame" lamp at the top - Bev loves this cos her mam got her it and last winter it seemed to cop it in the bad weather (yes, I was slowww getting it packed away before the storms hit it, so my ruddy fault) but Rich was kind enough to have a look and sure enough - I've tested it - it now works a treat and Bev's eyes will also light up tonight :) Thanks so much, Rich...

    upload_2026-4-26_13-25-33.png
    CHARGING AWAY!

    upload_2026-4-26_13-26-5.png
BACK OUTSIDE IN THE FIRE BALLOON TO ENTERTAIN BEV LATER (it doesn't take much hence me being on the scene!)

OK, let's move on to PSU 2...

We have a 5V euro plug PSU which stopped working on my Oric 3.5" floppy - arrived at Rich's and apparently all was well, as far as we know, so I need to test this one during the week so watch this space for further news here...

    upload_2026-4-26_13-28-52.png

    upload_2026-4-26_13-29-17.png
WE'LL SEE WHAT's WHAT WHEN THE ATMOS GETS A BOOT UP SHORTLY (currently a Speccy Plus 2 and Amstrad CPC464 hogging the limelight in the Baz cave).

So, finally for now, PSU 3 is a 12V jobbie which powers Bev's mushroom lights. Rich has repaired these at least twice before and there's barely "mushroom" much room to sort the frayed short length cables anymore (groan!), so he's been brilliant sorting these out for us previous and they've worked for months and months and then always something catches the PSU and lead behind our front door (the electronic fungi... should that be fun guy? No, that's Rich, these are illuminated fungi! Groan once more), which then severs the power cable to the lights out front way, fellas, eg.

    upload_2026-4-26_13-33-46.png
NEW PSU repair and the mushroom lights in the background - see what a neat job Rich has done on the leads and connectors for us - many thanks, Rich.

    upload_2026-4-26_13-34-52.png
THESE SHOULD LOOK BLOOMIN LOVVERLY, OUR BEV, TONEET!

So, I'll wrap up this first part of "What's in Richie's box, Baz?" and conclude by saying a MILLION THANK YOUS to you, Rich, for sorting out at least 3 electrical issues we were having here and so bringing light to where there was once only Orics and dark... that's gotta be a good thing, yeah?!

Cheers, fellas, massively appreciated, Rich - enjoy the sun, some fresh air and your gardens/outdoor life and both me and Rich will catch up with Al this week and he'll report back on his latest discoveries, finds and treasures... no doubt!

Adios, all, til next time and the remainder of....

    "What's in Richie's box, Baz?"

    LOL!
It doesn't take much, does it, for us all to be seeing a pal's nicely upgraded retro machine and thinking "I want one too!"
Great to see the enthusiasm still there, Al, and would you kindly pass on once more my grateful thanks to Richie for more electro goodness he recently sent through.

I did at last unpack the rest of the box and making my way through the carefully packed levels, all bubble wrapped and full of the poly pellets etc (which the cat loves chasing round the house!),

    upload_2026-5-4_10-34-51.png

I discovered very well repaired PSUs including two for my ZX81s and Oric - great stuff, you can never have enough of these essential items...

    upload_2026-5-4_10-35-30.png

and of course the creme de la creme... a lovely 512KB ram upgraded 800XL - more to follow when I get some time to fully explore its enhancements once I've had a crack at a few more Speccy sims!

    upload_2026-5-4_10-37-34.png
RICH PUT A LOT OF TLC INTO UPGRADING THE RAM (AND SOCKETS?) INTO MY 800XL - THANK YOU
VERY MUCH RETRO RICH - WHAT A GUY!

Guys, have a great meet-up today - hope the weather improves for you all - and best wishes to Al, Rich, Sonia and all the Atari Owner members this bank holiday.

Final question, anyone remember what the sun looks like?!

That's very kind and gracious of you, Graham.

At this early of a stage, I'd settle just for the means to safely connect two Atari 8-bits via the second joystick port, and I can play around with the software side of things, including the bit-banging, via PEEKS and POKES and go up from there once I have a good feel for the process.

A second PIA would allow the "network" to go full-speed/duplex, but like I said: I'd be more than happy with just the necessary connection via the joystick port. . . without frying either system, of course!

Hi Matt something to check when in 800XL mode, I think the O.S is still using Port B that are used on Joysticks 3&4 in 800 mode. (as you did say)
However I know this is 'emulated' within incogneto as such but not sure if you can access the PIA PortB as a certain lines used to control memory mapping for the XL. thus the O.S resets them back to the values in the shadow registers in the O.S.

I guess its something to check, likewise I'm not sure what will happen with a U1MB board installed, it may stop access directly to the hardware, as the memory is now on the U1MB so emulates portB the same way as incogneto.
I'll get round to it and see what happens.
Was it the 400 you were going to use as the animated Arm controller , seem to remember you mentioning this on A.S

Re boards, I can either make something and send it over of add to OSH Park or similar for you to make, this maybe a cheaper way for you. But lets see where we get to first.

Actually, I wouldn't mind seeing the pedals used for some sort of Atari 8-bit version of Rock Band, handling the kick drums, for example. :)

    Someday, but not today. :D

I think anything that adds to the looks; be it what looks like a very nice oak cabinet, or glass display shelves to tastful globes, 'vintage' retrobilia ( a new word?) is good, I see Tim likes collecting the documentation as well.
I love RGB / RGBA / RGBWA lighting strips, usually controlled by DMX so I can play with the colours (Colors' for Matt), that way I can go with mood, or on occation the beat of a track to change the colours.. Hmm wondering if I could design a DMX interface for Atari, has it ever been done ?

PSU's Hmm think I'll have to do the same, have draw full of psu's ditto, mains leads if seperate, a look uder my work desk shows 4 wall sockets all used, with 2x 6 ways mounted on the wall (all used), and additional one on the floor with 2 spares outlets, and a newly plugged in 8 way that I've used recently, I thought the two sixways were all I needed. I was so wrong, anyone else always short to sockets?

Lurving that 800 and CX85 paired together, Matt and the bill was a whopping $20? Call Starsky & Hutch - there's been a retro robbery somewhere! Excellent asset acquisition. Mine went up to Nysavant and I think he plans to downgrade it and turn in into an Oric. Also liking the radio alarm green LCD display, the calculator on standby and the racks of ROMs. Even from this side of the pond, this set-up just hums of sweet old nostalgia and my recycled retro nostrils are picking up the positive perfumes. Are those x2 Indus GTs sat on top of the battle tank? If so, think about changing their "skins" to 810 camo??! Only joking, fella - the set-up is grand as it is and I also spot the Atari 400 mouse mat design which you were kind enough to send me t'other Xmas. Marvellous line-ups, Matt.

Nice Diagram! I think I may use it one day to make a matching keypad for my 1200XL, since the 800 is the only model to ever get one.

@Graham , How much are the Pokey MAX boards selling for and are there more for sale or was it a limited run? I wasn't particularly interested before because I could still get real Pokey's for cheaper and the original run, IIRC, was only made for arcade boards and wasn't compatible with the 8-bits?

It's great to hear you have the regulators to fix your 800, I have also found that the 800 has so little clearance around Pokey that the PokeyMAX will in my case end up in there with the original in another Computer as a stereo upgrade. Pokeyone is cheaper I think only $36 U.S however the MAX has both in one package so its the best choice for me, Just hope the Pokeys in your machine are o.k as a PITA to unsolder cleanly when stacked.
