By the way Andy, I did finally receive the Christmas card you sent two days ago, along with the CD for '77 and, of course the tea bag! I'll have the tea after dinner this evening while I give the CD a play. Cheers!
So only 13 days after Christmas...

by M.D.BakerI think I get the joke, the bit about the large bag of tea for a bloke that is clearly addicted. But am I supposed to know who this guy is also? Is who he is supposed to be part of the joke? Is that one of your recent fly-by-night Prime Ministers that I missed while my head was still spinning from the other's coming and going so fast?

Though sometimes I wish we could get rid of some presidents that fast...you know, like a 30 day probationary period and if they don't live up to expectations, fire them and grab another bloke off the street to give it a go.
It would HAVE to be a more effective way of choosing the next leader of the free world than our corrupt mail-in voting system, since Covid, both literally and figuratively!
The clown we ended up with is a testament to that! His campaign slogan should have been "Make America the joke of the world again!" Or, maybe a twist on the slogan from above the gates of Hell in Dante's Inferno "All who enter [a vote for me] abandon all hope!" With either slogan he probably still would have won in an honest election based on his refreshing honesty!
Of course the recently elected Keystone Cops Republican House of Representatives are doing their part in making America look like a joke too! And we actually thought they might be the answer to helping stop Joe's destruction of America! We actually thought we were taking a page from The Who's song 'Won't Be Fooled Again." And what fools we were.
Is Yorkshire Tea good for cleaning egg off the face too?
Sorry, it was easy to get on a roll with the political jokes, when our politicians are such a joke!
I guess both the U.S. and U.K. are cornering the market on being the jokes of the free world these days!
If I could just be King for a day, before we have our next election cycle, I'd outlaw political parties, political lobbying and impose term limits for all politicians and term limits for all unelected appointed government agency officials and lastly a nation wide law requiring in-person voting with legal ID's required. Those things alone could turn the country around overnight!Last edited: Jan 9, 2023Andy Barr likes this. -

When Sunak asked that homeless guy if he was part of the financial sector, the world should have opened up and ate him. How disconnected from the real world can a PM be.
I watch a YT channel that my daughter got me interested in, it's called PoliticalJoe, he covers mostly UK based stuff, but he makes for some very funny and interesting viewpoints. And he also does a footy channel (if that is your thing).Andy Barr likes this. -

Nice work, Al!
You went for it and got it - a hat trick of heavenly retro bargains.
Yep, all three float my boat and I no doubt would've probably fought you for em instore!
The Sony TV, Sony tape and CD player are both used-quality items - at deffo the reet price - and you finished with a flurry with that sexy red n black modern gaming keyboard... I make that a retro...
RESULT, mate.
3nil to you and there's still time to score again before the weekend... ;-)
I'm currently going retro disco light barmy and also creating my own silly little sci-fi meets dance trance musak meets sarky subtitles aimed at having a light-hearted piss take of me and the lads I gan drinking with.
I'll post a few and gauge the reaction... probably a case of...
WTF?! Stick to your daytime job, Baz.
As you say, Al, keep on smiling and keeping on, folks.

Sounds like you are having some fun as well Andy. Need to give us a tour of Andy's Bar(r) soon please.
Yes, well pleased with my haul today. Cd cassette player was £14.99 and the keyboard £5.99 so less than the price of a second hand current generation console game and I got all that retro loveliness.
I'm now holding firm on any more gaming purchases though until I see if RetroHQ bring out the 7800GD sd card solution before the end of March. Right now I'm looking forward to finishing work tomorrow and then weather permitting get out on the old bicycle at the weekend for some fresh air.Andy Barr likes this. -

Despite what I said only last week, there have been a couple more games purchased this weekend! I had a little purge and traded some PS1 and PS2 games that will never get played into CEX and bought Everybody's Golf and Trackmania Turbo for PS4 instead. Then added a couple of Sherlock DVD's as well as I'm getting back into the classic stories again.
Also nipped into the local Cash Generator in the way out of CEX and spotted Golf Club 2019 for £3.99. It is a game I've been thinking about for a while but heard varying opinions on. At that price though I can afford to make up my own mind.

Brilliant buy, Al.
Probably quicker than queuing in car traffic, cheaper, zero emissions and gits yer fit at the same time.

Great, great, great tales of our old school days spent on endless hot summer hols biking trips, Raleigh Grifters, 3 speed Sturmey Archer gears and going arse over tit as we were either overloaded with camping gear/our panniers caught in the wheel spokes OR avoiding cow pats.... not quite successfully!
Great great days, guys.
Raw sore flesh or not, I'd go back in a flash, lads, wouldn't you?

For days when you just need to get your chopper out..
My mate Jeffery had an Italian clone of a chopper, apparently it was more expensive, but all we did as young boys was take the mick that he had a snide chopper. He used to get really upset about it, which was fun...
Easy Rider has a lot of sore armed kids to blame for, I tried to ride one but that weird arms up thing was just odd to me, I preferred my cheap and cheerful bicycle. And I doubt any kids understood what Easy Rider was about
I seem to remember Dennis Hopper saying that he was stoned throughout the making of the film. Same as Martin Sheen was during the making of Apocalypse Now.

Would like to hear your thoughts on the Vita Al, although I'm not really as in to things now, I still like to hear about stuff.
As I'm no longer on Atari Age I've not seen hide nor hair of Matt bar his one post on here, I'm sure he's ok and just making sure his net usage is lower. I wonder if that major rail car spill of toxic chemical's wafted anywhere near him, looked horrendous, true acid rain that bubbled when it landed, loads of dead animals and not great for the folk all around Ohio and nearby states.
Very odd that they actually set it all alight, therefore spreading it everywhere...Very odd...nysavant likes this. -

Not sure I'd make a very good videographer Andy, but it's nice to have such good emulation on a small package. Mainly made up of racing games in my case of course, but there is a nice program included that easily lets you download other titles without trawling through lots of romsites.
UNI-TED? I never knew you were a Newcastle supporter mate
Seriously, I'll be tuned right into that game after the Celtic v Rangers cup final up here. Hope both our teams get the results we want!Andy Barr likes this. -

See Celtic triumphed, mate, and the loud cheers from the Red Devils fans I was sat with this afternoon were matched only by the Sunderland Mackems rejoicing in the defeat of those fat black and white bloaters who thought by taking over Trafalgar Square and many of the London bars, that was enough to guarantee em victory...PMSL!! ;-)
Q)
How many years now since the Geordies won owt and will they have to go another 50 odd years until they get anywhere near again?
Answers on the beer gut of a fat Geordie...

Good results all round then Andy mate. And got to say, very glad that Howe didn't come to Glasgow last year, big Ange has became an absolute legend amongst us Celtic fans.Andy Barr likes this. -

Further play with the PS Vita and the two things that strike me are the quality of the display, even this non-OLED version. Really sharp and with very nice colour reproduction. The other things is the sound, very good with excellent stereo effects for such a small device. Not been overly fussed with any of the actual Vita games yet but it plays my PSP, SNES, Pc Engine and Atari 7800 titles perfectly

Great to hear, Al.
Sounds very impressive.
Please send a link or two to any You Tube clips that demonstrate some of your fave titles being played when you get chance.
Great win tonight for the Codheads, btw, winning 2-1 in the Cup away at Southampton.
Get in there, Harry the Haddock!

Blimey, I remember when Ian Saint john was still playing..
I don't know too many Scottish clubs, but when I was still at school in Marlow, one of the petrol giants (think it was Esso) was doing a set of embossed club badges that you collected with every purchase of petrol. Being kids we pestered the garage staff for free ones. I remember liking Celtic and Kilmarnock's badges, don't think I'd actually seen the clubs play back then (pure English league on TV).nysavant likes this. -

I'm laying in bed with a stomach bug today and in between bouts of dashing to the loo I'm kind of browsing a book I picked up from my local library. It's a massive collection of all the Panini football sticker albums from the late 70's into the 80's. Brings back lots of memories.

Commiserations, Al, with yer bad guts but it did get you out of work and instead yer head into a good book in bed instead so not all bad news, my mate.
I will post my collection incl my FULL 1978 Football League album which I must have spent £30-40 on as a kid (a bloody fortune back then) and also mention the story of my mate Dave Robbo who has ever since been known as "The Jew" for also managing to fill his... without ever buying a single 5p packet as they were in those days
Nice work, Al.
Another post bringing back the ACE memories!

So no new bits & pc's this week as I've been laid low with the stomach bug. It has given me a little bit more time with the Vita though, and I'm still impressed with it. N64 emulation is pretty good as well. Runs Ridge Racer 64 nicely.
Also been reading the book of GamesMaster, all about the TV show. I wasn't a big fan of it back in the day but it's an interesting read none the less and gives you an insight into the show and how it was produced. Need to finish it this week though as it's loaned from the local library and has to be back by next weekend....Andy Barr likes this. -

I think Diamond has calmed down a lot these days. He has been to an Edinburgh retro club a couple of times and came across as a lot nicer than he did back in the day. Wouldn't be hard I know lol. He is very honest in the book that he was a bit of a t*t back then and frequently high or drunk.
Stomach feeling a lot better now Paul, thanks. Although currently having problems sleeping instead. Ah well, lets me catch up on email I suppose.Andy Barr likes this. -

Just finished the book before returning it to the library today. It's actually made me feel like watching a few episodes now I have some of the back story. Recommended read even if you aren't a fan of Diamond.

In fact this will probably be a bit of a retro reading weekend as I catch up on the latest Crash, Amtix and Fusion magazines. I subscribe to Readly and they are included in the monthly sub, not sure if I'd buy them individually. Unless they bring out an A8 or ST version that is.
Also hoping that the latest issue of Pixel Addict is in the newsagents. Great magazine and I really enjoy the monthly trip to WH Smiths to pick up the latest issue.Andy Barr likes this. -

The weather has been pretty good here, only a little drop of snow. I even went out for a bike ride on my vintage Raleigh this morning and it was fine. Probably take one of the other bikes out tomorrow morning before I go and pay a visit to my best friend growing up. He managed to come off his new mountain bike last week and eded up with broken collar bone/ribs/nose and collapsed lung! Told him, we're getting too old for this sh#t!

Strange thing is Paul, I checked out his bike when I was over and it doesn't have a scratch on it!
I try not to go out cycling when it's icy, just too risky. Saying that I haven't bmx'd or road cycled for years, nowadays it's all about leisure and state of mind. And coffee and cake
