Many thanks for clearing that up, Matt, so we've got a level playing field.
I will investigate my options when we get back (pretty sure I sold my 800XL 256K RAM model a wee while ago).
I do though have a few other Cart/Atarimax and a German diagnostic cart with additional RAM so maybe I can boot the enhanced version after all.

Ah, missed this earlier, Rich.
Many thanks in advance if I need the upgrade - though I think I might be OK, mate.
Much appreciate the heads up and might say yes in future! -
by Andy Barr
You sure did, bud - yer laughing all the way to the (VR) bank, mate.
Excellent value for money immersive control system.
Get that paint job and sticker sorted and Bob's yer uncle. -

Good call, Al.
That makes sense and there's every chance that the sale of the 800XL alone should recoup 50-60% of your costs at a stroke (does it come with PSU/a/v SIO leads?) - I can't get involved though so only asking in case anyone I know is interested.
Cheers, good luck and I'll let you know if I'm available next weekend - we fly home tomorrow and then head to Sunderland Sunday for the Cardiff fixture! 3 wins on the bounce for the Black Cats so Bev in Mackem heaven ;-) We've had a great break here, guys. Can definitely recommend this region of France for a great self-drive/ self-catering holiday. -
by nysavantAlready got both packed for my week away Paul

Some great quality additions, Matt. Your collection just goes from great to greater! Enjoy those machines and take a well-earned break from the work, mate. You must be gagging for a proper play sesh (don't forget to give Commando a hammer!)

Here, here, guys.
The new war is another terrible tragedy.... whoever threw the Israelis/Jews and the Palestinians side by side together in the first place need their heads examining... us Brits in 1948? Probably - bad, bad, bad mistake. It'll never heal.
Again, in full agreement with Paul on this re-working of great innovational tech from back then made possible now with a new twist, new angle and new lurve of the usage for the hell of its sake - you always find a way, Matt and again, the screen pic you've provided is the best poss in the circumstances - a wonder you squeezed that out - again due to your devotion and perseverance and the lurve of these things.
Many many thanks again for finding time and the spirit to push through with these projects - they make the improbable come true and the rest of us give out a resounding WAHAY in goddamn admiration!
More power, once more, to yer elbow, mate.
Another fine fine project pushing forward - just remember to take an anti-sickness pill for those all day/all night seshes! ;-) -

Looks great, Al, the Tiny Footie and all those acquisitions... mags, bits n bobs, esp the C64 Mini - hours of fun guaranteed with that little lot and I know what you mean about certain print styles/fonts and sizes... it's another sign that we're slowly pegging out, me old mate.
One day nearer now... ;-) PMSL!
Enjoy, fella - great buys, mate and you've done well getting it all on a decent budget without breaking the bank. -

Nice Dreamcast MOD Matt, no issues with any games?
-
by Andy Barr
Sounds absolutely brilliant that crystal upgrade mod, mate.
Excellent. Is this a well-known adjustment or something that you have experimented with and come up trumps?
Amazing work, fella.
Hope you get even more enjoyment out of your Dreamcast! -

Ignore what I wrote if you saw it, I had not read your original post properly..
You had already answered re the heat and compatibility, doh.. -

You do like your modern consoles Richie, I'd never had put you down as a PS5 owner (but I know you are) and a good old Xbox One as well. I keep thinking what I'd get if / when the Atari 1200XL goes, I really want a PS5 but I know I'll have the same old problem with not being able to play for long before I'm almost crying with pain.
That Ratchett and Clank multiverse game looks mad...
As for that Warhammer game, is it me or does it feel clunky, maybe it's the YT video...I played the other action Warhammer game that was on the old Xbox(?) and liked it, the turn based versions just put me to sleep. Doom like versions keep me awake

Any thoughts about this Richie..
-
by Vyper68Sadly my PS5 is the digital model @Paul "Mclaneinc" Irvine. It was the only one available at the time.

No probs Richie, yes they were tight on the ground back then. Probably for the best, I have enough trouble playing what I have, let alone adding to it.
Keep safe and well... -

Absolutely agree with you 300%, Matt.
The ground-breaking Beeb ealy 80s anarchistic students-living in a hellhole alternative comedy show with Rik, Neil Planer, Ade Edmondson (and whoever played Mike - the cool smart guy - can never remember that actor's name) was very very nearly "The Wild Ones" but was actually The Young Ones! So close, I'll give you that Matt!
Yeah, god bless Rik - it must be a riot of laughs and insane practical jokes up there every bloody day!!

Mike , P(Rick), Vyvyan Basterd and Neil the bloody hippy!
Best scene ever, Baby I don't wanna live forever!! -

Thank you, Paul. I had tested the demo on VICE NTSC too, and on Hoxs64 and Micro64 and a couple of other emulators that promise to be cycle-exact but the real, physical C64 might as well show a little different behaviour. So that's because I'm looking for an original NTSC breadbin to run the demo.
FYI, the demo runs smoothly and without glitches on my PAL C64. -
by Andy Barr
Many thanks, Paul.
I've only just got 5mins free tonight now and look at the time... nearly bed o'clock so I'll have to follow your top tips tomorrow.
If I don't get on with VICE then I will take your advice and go down the easier for noob's Gamebase route instead.
Cheers, Big Ears!!
Always top advice on this site - friendliest and freshest forum by far!
PS>>>> Yep, got Gorf and Jelly Monsters running in seconds... took me hours before getting nowhere fast! Just need to work out the Vic's function key equivalents mapped to a laptop keyboard and the general game keyboard controls and then I might be properly in business!!! Cheers, mate - cooking on gas now!

Cheers, Paul.
I've had a broken tooth out and difficult to extract root taken out today at a local hospital BUT as soon as I'm feeling a bit more with it, I'll have another look at the keyboard mapping and try and get a joystick up and running through a USB interface with the VICE/Vic-20 emulation.
Last night it wasn't having any of it with any keys so I guess I must have boobed somewhere...
Thanks very much once more for all the guides and pointers, mate. -
by Andy Barr
Thanks, Paul.
I'm just on standard paracetamols but taking the max dose and it's taken the edge off.
Still a/w the hospital pharmacy to sort out the antibiotics...
Never mind - many thanks and it's given me the chance to put some decorations up on the tree whilst I sip soup!
Cheers, mate. -

Many, many, many thanks, Paul - a TO DO this weekend without doubt for me - I'll report back, guys, with feedback. -
by Andy Barr
LOL!
I bet a lot of us keep strange hours these days... you know, what with up n down to toilet in the middle of the night 3-4 times and not being able to get back to sleep so you get up, sort yourself a brew and then... oh, I'll stick the computer on and check me emails/Beeb news etc etc....
Poor you Al, obsessed with Atari Owner, Paul's toilet habits, my grotty gob and having to feed your console habit!
;-)
Have a lay in tomorrow - doc's orders.
Cheers, mate - will look forward to your review. -
by Andy Barr
Brilliant, Al.
Many many thanks for the heads-up there, mate, in terms of best prices, bargain sales outlets and further feedback on features. It sounds like a super system all round even with 1-2 wee issues. -
by Andy Barr
Absolutely incredible, Matt.
Just like with your Atari collection, your attention to detail, giving it the max TLC-wise and the dedication you have for this old kit just oozes through in this post - excellent work, me ol muckah!
Keep us updated on how this all progresses and just how great the old kit still works, sounds and brings pleasure - as you continue to enjoy your quality listening and audiophile hobby too. -
by Andy Barr
Looking forward to finding out more, Al... keep us posted!
