I owned around four Fiat Uno's back in the 90's, never had a Panda though. They even made a 4X4 version of the Panda :)
The Fiat Uno Turbo ie was a thing of beauty tho'

I had the current shape Fiat Panda and the previous more boxy one. Loved the boxy one, it was a great little car and would happily drive one again. Wouldn't mind a shot on the 100HP sporty version either.

    Haha - nice replies, fellas.

Two quick stories for you on the FIAT models you mention above, lads.

BACK in Sept 95, I was working/shirking on a campsite in southern France near St Tropez, and this little Fiat Panda rocks in (literally) PACKED TO THE GUNNELS with FOUR BIG GEORDIES - two couples - carrying plenty of timber, I can tell ye. It was fit to bust as it was also full of a weeks' camping supplies, yep, 2000 bottles of Newcy Brown and provisions (mainly Monster Munch!). The 4 occupants had to be crowbarred out the vehicle. Bloaters they were and they'd driven all the way down from Newcastle to La Baume - I kid ye not! I've no idea of the actual distance and how they managed it without - a) Busting the vehicle; b) Knacking each other BUT, I'll never forget their reaction to when they discovered ol Baz supported MAN UNITED - HA! King Kev's black n whites have cracked it this year, marra - WE'RE 10 POINTS CLEAR! WHO THE FUK ARE MAN UNITED?! etc

ABOVE: Baz - he's always been a bit of a Red

I always wondered what their faces were like come April / May time of 96 when their team blew up and this infamous incident hit our screens...

I'D LOVE IT IF WE BEAT THEM!

The other story's less "entertaining" but could have ended in DISASTER.

Back then in the late 80s, my mate Pete Qwilk drove a standard Tipo or Uno - can't remember now - but his pal at the garage they worked at in Hull had the UNO TURBO. His mate was forever telling him what a beast it was and it's phenomenal speed and acceleration had to be seen to be believed etc.
Any road, Pete books a minibreak in the Cumbrian Lakes and he sez to his pal, if I give you £100 would you loan me your Turbo for the weekend? His mate agrees, that was a small fortune back then, and off Pete and his lass Hels bool...
All is going fine until they get to Honister Pass and some windy (ie twisty not gusty!) hill. Pete has got the car flying along the narrow roads like shit off a stick. That won't come as any surprise to you lads, I know, cos you would have done the same when you were 27-28ish. Any road, Pete is flying DOWN this hill at something approaching a ton when he starts to apply the brakes... nothing... he tries again.... nothing.... approaching them at the bottom of the hill and starting to climb is a wide low-loader carrying something huge on the back... FEK. Pete needs to slow down FAST. Basically, he shouted something unholy, his lass asked him what was the matter (he was trying hard NOT to convey the feeling of sinking and impending imminent DOOM) and Pete frantically began pumping the brake pedal as quick as he could and changed down the gears.... he swears to this day that his guardian angel must have been watching over him as the car suddenly began to respond, bucking and slowing down as the revs shot up and repeated pumping of the pedal finally caused the brake shoes to engage and the car slowly came back under control and pulled to the side as this huge wide bodied truck passed them by missing them by just a few precious inches.

ABOVE: Pete Qwilk - He still swears to this day that this is the nearest near-death experience he has ever had... can you beat that one, fellas, Fiat-related?!

FIAT UNO TURBO - SHIT OFF A STICK AND SAFE AS HOUSES.... AS LONG AS THE BRAKES DON'T FAIL!
